in this case it's quite simple: say the Cavs are up by 4 and LeBron goes to the bench for 2 minutes - when he comes back in they are down by 8. that would be a -12.Originally posted by creekster View PostI will flaunt my ignorance here and ask how that -12 number is calculated. I recall there being a couple of different approaches to the -/+ thing. How was this one done?I'm like LeBron James.

Thats interesting but its value might be limited depending on the other line up changes made, right? IOW if GS left in their starting group and Clevelnad changed out their starting group (e.g. Kyrie and Love both sit) than it is a bit misleading, perhaps. ALthough I recall the two minutes he sat and it did seem like as soon as he was gone the game changed immediately.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View Postin this case it's quite simple: say the Cavs are up by 4 and LeBron goes to the bench for 2 minutes - when he comes back in they are down by 8. that would be a -12.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Either way, it's huge issue. Regardless of lineups, you shouldn't lose 12 points on 2 minutes when the star player goes to the bench. The warriors score just over 2 points per minute. The Warriors would have to score triple that while the Cavs get shut out during the same span.Originally posted by creekster View PostThats interesting but its value might be limited depending on the other line up changes made, right? Except in this case both Love and Kyrie were on the floor, Lebron, KD and Steph all on the bench. Warriors still went +12 in 2 minutes.Originally posted by creekster View PostThats interesting but its value might be limited depending on the other line up changes made, right? Right, I recall. But that makes me think that this stat is not as revealing as it might otherwise be. The warriors can drop 12 on anybody in a few minutes at almost any time. Look at the last few minutes of the game last night. So while it is an amazing -/+ I dont think it really illustrates LeBron's value or the inability of the rest of the Cavs to play becasue it is most likely an aberration. When he sat, the air did go out a bit, anyone watching could feel it. But the -12 figure is maybe overstating it some.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostExcept in this case both Love and Kyrie were on the floor, Lebron, KD and Steph all on the bench. This is where we disagree. The warriors do have the ability to go +12 on teams at anytime. But over 44 minutes with Lebron on the floor they didn't and were -7.Originally posted by creekster View PostRight, I recall. But they did when it mattered. The stat can still be misleading, IMO. If the Cavs go up big early in the game and GS comes back but doesn't go up as far as the cavs, the number is negative. But the meaningful number here is what happened in the last few minutes. Lebron was on the floor at that time.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostThis is where we disagree. Can we all agree that Lebron is an amazing freak of nature and one of the best players of all time? Two seasons ago, without Kyrie or Love, he willed the Cavs to two Finals wins against the Warriors.
In these Finals, he's averaging 32 points on 55% shooting (39% from 3), 10 assists, and 12 rebounds. And he may have missed his best chance at a win in last night's game. The Warriors are just that good this season."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"
