Possibly, Ichiro would have had an early career similar to Tony Gwynn. He plays half the time for a couple seasons when he's around 22, collects some hits and then hits his stride around the time he's 24. Based off of that, Ichiro would have had three 200+ hit seasons before he was 27 (his age when he debuted with the Mariners) and collected, maybe, a total of another 200 hits combined from his first couple seasons.

Right now, he'd be sitting on around 3,800 hits which would be incredible.
I agree. This doesn't take away anything from Ichiro's legacy though. He's had a great career.

BTW, I was at the game when Gwynn got his 3000th hit. It was a couple of years before the Expos shipped out of Montreal, so you can guess how many people were attending...

As a comparison, during the seasons that Pete Rose was 27 to 41 years of age, he had 2,862 hits.

Over the first 15 years of Ichiro's career in MLB, he has 2,933 hits. Ichiro has never really had major injury issues, and he hit the ground running back in 2001, so I really think he would have averaged 200 hits for at least the three seasons prior to 2001.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Aroldis Chapman throws a 105 mph pitch, second fastest pitch ever recorded. He also has the fastest ever a few years ago.

The yankees bullpen is very good this year. Too bad it's wasted on this season.

Ortiz went 0 for 5 today, 4 of those AB he left runners on base. The winning streak is done at 11 for the Sox.

I'm hoping that the Sox haven't peaked too soon, and that Ortiz won't start a slump right in time for the playoffs

Red Sox are winning the world series, last to first! Of course I predicted the same thing last year. Can only mean that the Red Sox are wining back-to-back World Series:
                2012 - last; 2013 - WS Champs; 2014 - last; 2015 - WS Champs; 2015 - last; 2016 - WS Champs; 2017 - WS Champs.

I don't care about baseball very much, I don't cheer for anyone. That said, I'd like to see Cleveland and the Cubs in the World Series. One of the loser franchises would finally win it all.

I confess, I wouldn't be too sad if the Cubs won the Series. I have a soft spot in my heart for Lester.

Poor Orioles. Ubaldo comes in and gets rocked by 3 straight batters. O's best reliever never even gets in the game.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Really dumb by Showalter last night. If you have a reliever with a 0.5 ERA and you never put him in and you lose an 11 inning game that is just stupid.

Always have thought it is so dumb for teams to save their best relief pitcher for save situations. If a team gets runners on base near the end of a tie game seems like that's always a good time for your best relief pitcher.

i get why they were trying to save Britton earlier, but when Toronto had guys on first and third and one out, it's desperation time. you have to put Britton in the game. unbelievable.

Yeah, in an elimination game the change should have been made even after the first hit of that inning.
