    MLB 2016

Might as well get it started:

Red Sox give David Price 217 million for 7 years, the most ever for a pitcher.

There's no denying that he's an ace, but 7 years for a 30 year-old pitcher? I hate it when the Sox play loose with money, Yankees style. The Yankees can absorb multiple busts and still be in contention yearly. Not that the Sox aren't rich, but it just seems like when they dish out superstar-level money it comes back to haunt them.

Anyways, here's hoping that he does good things for the Sox. He certainly gave them problems when he pitched for the Rays. And I hope last postseason was an aberration for him.

I'm just hoping the Red Sox are part of the playoff race in 2016. The past couple of seasons have been discouraging. I'll miss Big Papi.

A good pitching rotation will certainly help, though it will be uncharted territory when Ortiz leaves. I'm hoping for a healthy Buchholz. With Price, that's two solid pitchers. Maybe Porcello gets off to a better start next year.

Cueto to Giants for 130 million. Six year contract.

Another 30 year-old pitcher signed to a multi-year contract. That's a lot of faith on aging pitchers.

With his up and down season, I would be worried. Of course, he won't be required to be the ace of that staff.

Junior is a HOFer. Deserving without question.
Piazza is a HOFer. Best offensive catcher ever.

5 of the top 10 career HR hitters are not HOFers (Bonds, ARob, Sosa, Mcgwire).

I don't think those guys will ever shake the taint of steroid use, but I view the HOF as a museum as much as an honor. Those guys all made history, I think it's time to start letting them in. The public knows, they will have * by their names for the rest of their lives.

I'm in favor of making a special display discussing the steroids era in baseball and then sticking those guys right in the middle of it. And it should be done by executive fiat and not by vote of the writers. I think it's a good middle ground and a similar compromise would be good for Pete and Shoeless Joe.

Cowherd had a funny bit on this today. He said that if there is a porn HOF, would they ban those who used Viagra?

SJS used a Trump reference to pimp his MLB thread. If that's so, I'm begging the CS crowd to support my saner, more Kasich-like thread! I'll take it to the end of October, if need be!

Anyways, interesting end of the Rays-Jays game. The new slide rule ended the game, giving the Rays the win. I think the replay clearly shows Bautista interfering with the 2nd baseman. But that level of interference seems less egregious than the level of interference the new rule meant to eliminate. It will be interesting to see if this play sets a barometer for the rest of the season.

Rockies rookie with four HRs in the first three games of the season; on pace to hit 216 for the year.
