Jim Barnett, the Warriors' TV color guy, told an interesting story last night about GS breaking the Bulls' season wins' record set in '96. In the final month of that season, Chicago hosted the Hornets and lost the game after the buzzer had sounded with the Bulls leading by a point. But the Bulls had fouled a Hornet's shooter as time expired. The shooter went to the line and sank both shots, giving the Hornets the win. The shooter was Dell Curry. So one reason GS stands alone with the most wins in a season is because Steph's dad sank a couple of free throws. Of course, his having sired Steph nine years before that is another reason.
I don't believe players from different eras can be compared because the game has changed so much. As a slow, short, white guy, I have of course always been convinced that nobody will ever be better than Bird. I don't thing anyone touches Jordan for the '90's and LeBron and Kobe could each make a very good case for being the greatest player of the 2000's, but Curry may outshine them all. Maybe it's just that I like the style of ball he plays, but I've enjoyed watching him play more than any player in the last 25 years.

      From an SBNation article:

It's not the most field goals ever attempted, as Wilt Chamberlain attempted 63 shots when he scored 100. But since the stat started being tracked officially in the 1983-84 season, no one has ever taken 50 shots. Only six times have players taken more than 45 shots, with three of them belonging to Bryant. Before Bryant's 50, the most attempts taken since 1985-86 was Michael Jordan with 49 field goal attempts. Of course Bryant would top Jordan in something in his final game ever.

The 50 field goal attempts also shatters this season's NBA high, which was only 36 shots attempted by Russell Westbrook in 48 minutes played. Bryant did 50 attempts in 42 minutes, while his 60 points was also a high for the 2015-16 season. (Anthony Davis led the NBA with 59 points scored earlier this year.)

Bryant also attempted 21 three-point shots, making six. The most threes ever taken was J.R. Smith jacking 22 of them, so Bryant fell just shy of the record there. Bryant already owns the record for most misses in a game (30), so his 28 misses on Wednesday wasn't a record, either.

I don't know how they'll do it, but the Jazz need a legit scorer and a legit team leader. Seems like the lack of both doomed this team. Snyder and Lindsey have a tough job turning the corner with this roster.
With a healthy roster this team woulda coulda shoulda finished just outside the top 4 in the west. Oh well.

Gordon is Robin to the Jazz nonexistent Batman, and no superhero is going to come to Utah. Barring another '16, baby steps to a first round exit should be the next 3-year plan.

          • SC had 16 games where he made 8 or more 3-pt FGs. He shot 48% on 3-pt FG of 30 ft or more and made over 100 more 3pt shots than the previous record holder.

            He is other-worldly.

If his early injuries are truly a thing of the past I have little doubt the guy will go down as the greatest shooter of all time.

                    • Um, is Curry going to be OK for the rest of the playoffs? That's two injuries in one series.

                      • Golden State better hope the Clippers first round series goes 7. Without Curry, I think the Clippers could beat Golden State.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

If Doc Rivers wasn't their coach I think they might have a chance.

                          • How lucky are the Warriors?

Sure Steph is hurt. But now Paul is out for the remainder of the playoffs, Blake Griffin is doubtful for game 5. So this series is going at least 7, and Portland is probably a slight favorite now. GSW should easily get by either of these teams without Curry. Which gives him plenty of time to rest up for the Western Conference finals.

Also no way in hell Steve Kerr should have won COY. Luke Walton had a better record than he did, dude missed 43 games. Walton went 39-4 in his absence. I think it should have gone to Terry Stotts of Portland.

                            • The San Antonio v. Golden State WCF is going to be a great series. I think the Spurs will win it. I don't know if Curry is going to be completely healthy during these playoffs.
