But of course, Kobe is still Kobe - so he goes out and puts up 30 shots the next two games and the Lakers go down easily.

His team is successful when his teammates score and play defense. Kind of like Jimmer and BYU. Odom was the only other Laker to show up yesterday.

BYU is something like 16-1 when Jimmer scores 30+. I don't think I need to point out the Lakers record when Kobe takes 20+ shots compared to when he takes less than 20.

Kobe has great teammates - you can't even compare the two. Besides, the last two games, Kobe started jacking shots early and often, before he had any clue his teammates would struggle. And that seems to be more the norm than the exception with him. When he shoots a lot, he starts early.

When Kobe allows his teammates to get involved they will score and defend, but he doesn't seem to care about that too often.

That said, Surfah, I don't expect you to concede anything on this - you love Kobe and nothing is going to change your mind. But it makes me sick to watch.

Right but the competition is also much different. If Kobe takes 20 shots or less yesterday they lose by 30. And he didn't start early. He only had 3 FG attempts in the first quarter yesterday and his first shot (he was fouled) didn't come until 7:30 left to play.

It's not like the other guys didn't get their shots either. How long is Kobe supposed to be dumping the ball into Gasol for them to do something? Gasol hit his season average for FG attempts. Artest got off 10 shots more than his season average. Fisher had his season average for attempts. The problem is those three guys went 7-29.

And not getting yours on offense is not an acceptable excuse for not playing defense.

Pretty much. Kobe shot over 50%. How was that a bad thing?

Gasol has looked extremely tired and has been lethargic for about a month.

I think I said this about a month or two ago about Gasol. JaX was giving him way too many minutes. I thought that would go away some with Bynum back (now his effing left knee is sore ), but it really hasn't.

There is truth to this that I am willing to concede. Perk going down was a huge loss.

I'll spare you the entire list, but it's long. In the final 24 seconds of playoff games, Bryant has racked up almost as many air balls as makes, making just below 30 percent of game-tying or go-ahead shots. He hasn't hit such a shot in a playoff game, in fact, since 2008, including key misses in the closing moments against the Jazz and Magic in 2009, and the Thunder and Suns last spring. He made one of his four shots in the fourth quarter of Game 7 of last year's Finals.
On how Kobe ain't so clutch:
The gist of it is that he's easy to guard because you know he's not going to pass it.

Selfish basketball players make me sad, sure, but two Laker losses in a row were more than enough to turn that frown upside down. Thanks!

Since we had nothing else to do this morning we went to temple square from the airport, the first thing Captain said was "why is a Laker on top the temple?" Then HFN Jr said "yeah that looks just like Kobe!"

So that was a fun trip.

                            Are you at temple square???

I work about 3 blocks from there.

Were you panhandling out front earlier today?
