DDD, I'm loving that your Lakers are getting their rings to the music of one of your all time favorite bands!

Opening night rankings and the Lakers are on top.

Also, Coach McGuirk is a closet Lakers fan.

I guess I can explain further. Growing up in Southern California, I grew up on the Lakers. Kareem, Norm Nixon, Jamal Wilkes, Cooper, AC, Goggles, McAdoo, Worthy, Byron Scott, etc etc. I remember the Ralph Sampson shot, the baby sky hook. I remember where I was when I found out that Magic had HIV. I remember being devastated that Big Game James was cheating on his wife. I watched each game waiting for a coop-a-loop. and on and on.

My favorite team was the 92-93 team and the effort they put into trying to defeat number one seed Phoenix Suns in the Playoffs. Going up 2-0 only to give it back and lose the 5 game series. Threatt, Peeler, Eldon Campbell, Sam Perkins. That was good stuff.

Then I moved to Utah. I tried to follow the Lakers, became sidetracked with love and the next thing I know, I am not following the team anymore.
I became disinterested in the NBA and haven't really made my way back.

this has been a good first half considering that it is opening night against the lowly clippers and the lakers are probably focused on the rings and the banner.

I liked the ceremony, although the music choice was weak. I like how the Lakers brought everyone out from the past. Lakers keeping everything in the family.

Artest's hair. Wau! That is very interesting.

Did anyone else notice that Pow was basically the only player to walk to David Stern? Everyone else jogged over. Either Pow thinks he is really cool or his hamstring is really bothering him. I guess both are possible.

If there are no major injuries, this Lakers team is going to repeat. The question is whether they can broach the 70 win mark. Again, with no injuries, I think they are good enough to do it. Will they do it?.....probably not. My prediction: 67 wins. They come close, but still miss the mark.

In truth, it is probably better. In the 80s the regular season seemed to mean more, and there wasn't a saturation of sports on tv/radio/internet and everything gets better in memories. I think the NBA is great right now, I am very excited for this season.

Good opening night game. Ugly 3rd quarter though. This Lakers team is good. Loved the ring ceremony. The music was weird though. Jeanie Buss looked good. Rowr. Artest will be just fine on this team. When Pau comes back, having LO with the second unit will go a long way to helping the bench. Bynum will be an All-star if he stays healthy. Shannon Brown has some springs. I just hope this team can stay focused during the regular season.

Watching the Celtics, they are scary good as well. Marquis Daniels and Sheed were huge signings. That will be an epic finals.

Jazz. While I have transitioned from BYU being my number 1 team to the Ducks, the Blazers were always too much of a rival for the Jazz. I could never love them, in fact it is hard to even see them win. I would have much rather seen a Duck, Aaron Brooks, win last night than the Blazers and their stupid Husky.

Wow you learned a lot from watching one game against the lowly Clippers.

Unreal that 17 of lakers first 21 games are at home. Reggie Miller said last night that if they do not start 20-1 he would be shocked.

I heard that too, and my first thought was great start 20-1 but that means a lot of road games to end the season. Does that set the Lakers up to enter the playoffs with tired legs?

It isn't unreal, unless you don't follow the Lakers.

Since they moved to Staples, they almost always start that way. The reason is because every year they have to move out for the Grammys or some other Staples event, causing the Lakers to go on those ridiculous 7-8 game roadies in Feb or March. They usually also have another 6-game swing, as well.

                            It all evens out.

for the record, I didn't need to watch the Clippers game to know that the Lakers will be in the Finals (barring injuries). book it!

The championship ring, shaped subtly like Staples Center, has 2.85 karats in diamonds and is worth at least $10,000. Each player had an image of his face inscribed on the side of his ring, the first time such a feature had been included on NBA championship rings. Fourteen diamonds ringed a white-gold image of the Larry O'Brien championship trophy that represented the franchise's 15th championship.
