Squeeze with two outs bottom 9 of the WS would have taken amazing balls. Would have loved to see that. What they really needed was just for Perez (and earlier hitters) to show some zone discipline to force Bumgarner back down. The hands are a pretty easy line to draw in terms of what you can handle, which is why I have no idea why he/they kept chasing. With a dude like Bumgarner you have to have a plan w/r/t which portions of the zone you can handle and where you're going to attack, and leave the rest alone until you're forced to go after it. But Perez let him just keep expanding so Bumgarner knew he totally owned that situation. imanihojin said they had to swing because of the ump, but there's no reason to chase bad, or even borderline, pitches until you have to protect. Though this is obviously easier said than done. That's a ridiculously overwhelming situation to be in.
You sound like Verducci. He was all pissed that the Royals were not working the pitch count against Madbum and chase him from the game that way. But Bumgarner threw 16 straight strikes at one point. He was locked in and nobody was beating him.
I do find it funny that he has an era over 5 in the 1st inning of games. He has struggled since his rookie year out of the gate. Minnesota tattooed him for what seems like 9 runs in 1/3 of an inning earlier this year. Even when he came in as a relief pitcher he struggled in his first inning until he was able to get dialed in.
The guy is an absolute witch. He is also better than Kershaw.
The Giants parade is at noon today (right past my office's outdoor patio on market street, but I digress). Today is also the City's favorite holiday, Halloween. This seems to be causing a great deal of confusion among the San Francisco population. Do you wear Giants Colors or something more traditional? So far it looks like Giants are winning out.
huh?? giants colors are orange and black. how much more traditional do you get on halloween??

I don't know who Verducci is or why he was pissed. Bumgarner is awesome and the odds of beating him were already long, but you have to give yourself a chance, and chasing balls out of the zone doesn't you give you that chance. At least 3 of the 4 guys that came up in the 9th chased balls out of the zone. It's easy to get tricked and chase a ball, especially against a guy like Bum, and especially if it's a pitch that starts outer half and moves out, or starts lower third and moves down. But it's the location they were chasing that made it worse. Like I said, the hands are pretty easy place to define the zone, and fastball above the hands is probably the easiest read because it's not ending up anywhere else. Hosmer chased at least two balls above his hands. Butler at least one. Perez probably like three. They could have shown a lot better place discipline to give themselves a chance. But again, that moment is enormous and I'm sure it's very difficult to maintain a good approach.
But I'm glad you watched since there wasn't a Utah game that night.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.
Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

Funny that people are arguing about Stanton over Kershaw for the MVP stating Kershaw only plays every 5 days. Yet Stanton missed a good portion of the season with his eye injury.
