  • How about a series. Not just a county series, state series, but a World Series

It is time to discuss which team is going to get lucky enough to win a World Series this year.

My ranks of the teams in both the Major League and the JV.

    Major League:
    1) Tigers
    2) Red Sox
    3) A's
    4) Indians
    5) Rays

    JV
    1) Cardinals
    2) Braves
    3) Reds
    4) Dodgers
    5) Pirates

Good news is that with the way everything is set up with the playoffs, it doesn't really matter who is best because it is just going to be won by the luckiest.

So what the hell, A's in 6 over the Dodgers.

Those look fair, except I would switch the Dodgers and Reds. I very uneducated guess is the BoSox over the Cards in 5.

A one-game playoff in baseball is such a joke. Even a five-game series is lame in MLB, where the best teams only win 60% of their games and worst teams win 40%. Total crapshoot.

At least a 7-game series is slightly more legitimate. But I agree that baseball playoffs are mostly about which team gets lucky. I like the Cards over the Red Sox.

I don't have a problem with the 1-game playoff because it is the non-division winners that are playing in it. It creates more value to winning a division by giving the division winners an automatic pass into the division series. I think the 5-game series in the first round is a joke.

These rankings are pretty solid. Less than 12 hours after you posted them they are already wrong.

Not true. They are still right because the playoffs are nothing but luck.

...And a sports series. So the best football team, the best baseball team, the best soccer team, the best NBA team, etc. Smash brothers super brawl.

Sorry but 1-game between the Reds and Pirates does not override the evidence of a 162-game season that the Reds were the better team.

                Reds +109 run differential
                Pirates + 57 run differential

What about head to head which now favors the Pirates 11-9.

Certainly not enough a spread there to override the run differential difference.

A's were 4-3 against the Tigers this year and no one is really going to argue that they are the better team going into this series.

12-8 by my count. I guess to truly know, you'd need the run differential of those 20 games.

I'm taking the Pirates in 6 games over whoever from the league that doesn't play real baseball.

There were a lot of 1-run games and a couple of extra innings games.
