I've been watching Abdullah for the past four years and I think the Lions drafted a very good RB. My only concern is if he will hold up to the pounding RBs take in the NFL. On the other hand, Abdullah had 200+ carries the past three season behind a less than dominant OL. He is a very versatile RB and also what people refer to as a "high-character" player - a nice change for the Lions from the last high profile player they drafted out of Nebraska.

Overrated, IMO. They always say that about smallish RBs, but I don't think there is any evidence that smallish RBs are any less durable than big RBs in the NFL.

I saw that Nebraska "high-character" fellow hanging on on a segment with Warren Buffet on CNBC. Warren was on his usual kick about the rich. He didn't mention his Secretary who pays more taxes than he and most rich people. Yea, the one he forgot to mention makes over $500,000 a year.

It is kind of sad how Warren's attempt to mislead lowered my opinion of him so much, but it did.

I don't know anything about him other than the short highlight reel they showed about the pick. He really looks like a Barry Sanders type of runner- I guess Lions fans will love that.

Probably right. Carry the ball enough times and a RB is going to get injured regardless of size; especially so if the OL playing in front of him doesn't have it together (a reference to Nebraska not to Detroit).

Commando, I was a fan of Barry Sanders. I watched him play in Memorial Stadium when Oklahoma St. came to play. I lamented when Nebraska passed on Sanders out of Wichita, Kansas when I heard he was much better than the last RB Nebraska signed from that area who also happened to be pretty good. Ameer Abdullah is no Barry Sanders. But Ameer is a similar back and a very good one.

Detroit has some question marks on the OL as well. They traded down in the first round and got Manny Ramirez (back) from the Broncos as part of the trade. They then took an OL with the Bronco's first-round pick, and they got another one in the seventh round. If these guys and the RBs can get some semblance of a respectable running game going, then the offense would be in pretty good shape.

He signed 2 big contracts. His rookie contract was when rookies could still make a boatload.

Doesn't need anymore money... and being in Detroit he isn't going to win a Super Bowl anytime soon.
