KVN will likely miss the season opener due to an abdominal injury that may or may not be a sports hernia:

I've seen this referenced as a "sports" hernia a couple places. Is that somehow different than just a regular old hernia?
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

WTH. Didn't they give him that hernia test before he could play football this year?
            Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Yes. "Sport's" hernia is an injury to the soft tissues (muscle, ligament, tendon) of the lower abdominal wall or groin.

Regular hernia is a protrusion of abdominal contents through a natural defect in the abdominal wall.

A sports hernia can progress to a regular hernia if the injury doesn't heal and there remains a weak area in the abdominal wall.

Dallas Reynolds just pancaked Ziggy. Sorta - it was mostly after the play, but he put Ziggy on his back.

Was that Dallas? Ziggy got man handled on that play.

How do you tell the difference between a sports hernia and an abdominal strain? If, hypothetically speaking, someone were to do an intense ab workout and then feel a sudden pulling in his lower abdomen when kicking a soccer ball warming up the next day, would that be a strain? Also, this person hypothetically has difficulty running, sitting up, or coughing without pain.

KVN is feeling good. I'm excited to see him get of IR and play.

Im not really a Lions fan but some guy named matthew stafford is making me plenty of fantasy football points, as I attempt to become the first person to win our league with an auto draft and not a single trade or player move all season.

Apparently Detroit gave him a designation that won't allow his return until early November, regardless of when he's ready to play. He said that on the radio the other day.

Yes. He was put on short term IR which is a minimum of 8 weeks. He can start practice after 6.
