Kehl made the Redskins but So'oto was cut. Vic was a longshot because there was no way he was going to take spots from Orakpo, Kerrigan, Tapp and Jenkins. Plus they have Rob Jackson who is suspended the first 4. So'oto played well, I wouldn't be surprised to see him picked up elsewhere."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

My 2013-2014 AFC predictions
AFC:
AFC East: 1) Pats; 2) Dolphins; 3) Bills; 4) Jets
AFC North: 1) Ravens; 2) Bengals; 3) Steelers; 4) Browns
AFC South: 1) Texans; 2) Colts; 3) Titans; 4) Jags
AFC West: 1) Broncos; 2) Chiefs; 3) Chargers; 4) Raiders
Playoff seeds:
1)Texans -- they play the NFC West, but they're getting Seattle down in Houston. They also play the AFC West which could be the second worst division in the league behind their own. On top of all that, their games against the Broncos and Pats are in Houston. To summarize, they have two tough road games -- at Baltimore and at San Francisco. Their three other tough opponents are all at home. They have automatic wins against the Chargers and Raiders and they'll go at least 5-1 in their division. That's 7 guaranteed wins. I think they'll go 2-3 in the aforementioned tough games. That's 9 wins. Their three remaining games are @KC, @AZ and home against the Rams -- a minimum of two wins. So the floor for Houston is 11-5, IMO, but I think they'll pick up another win and go 12-4.
2) New England -- I think their receiving corps will be fine. But they have a tough schedule. They're playing the NFC South and AFC North -- two of the three toughest divisions in the NFL. They have these road games -- Houston, Baltimore, Atlanta, Cincy and Carolina (who I think will be pretty good). I don't think I like them in any of those games, maybe they go 1-4 and I think they're dropping all three tough AFC road games. 11-5 is a real possibility. If there's a three way tie between Houston, Denver and New England at 11-5, and each team is 1-1 against the other two teams, I think New England may have the worst conference record between the three teams. If Houston goes 12-4, then New England takes the #2 seed.
3) Denver-- I don't like all the injuries and suspensions. I do, however, like their schedule. They play in a crappy division where they'll go at least 5-1. Then they play the AFC South whom they'll go 3-1 against. So that's 8-2. They also play the NFC East which consists of a bunch of 9-7 through 8-8 teams. They'll at least go .500 against them. That's 10-4. Their remaining two games are against the Ravens and @ New England. I really like them in the Ravens game and don't like them on the road against New England. The New England game ends up a critical loss because it's the tiebreaker for the #2 seed.
4) Baltimore -- I think John Harbaugh is one of the top 4 coaches in the league along with his brother, Belicheck and Sean Payton. I don't like the loss of Boldin and Pitta. But they still have a decent line and skill players. I like how they retooled on defense with Dumerville and their draft picks. I feel like these guys are always good for 10-6.
5) Cincy
6) KC
Round 1: Denver over KC, Baltimore over Cincy; Round 2: Pats over Broncos, Baltimore over Houston; Round 3: Pats over BaltimorePart of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

NFC:
NFC East: 1) NY Giants; 2) Philadelphia Eagles; 3) Redskins; 4) Cowboys -- don't read too much into this, I think every single team is going to be 9-7 or 8-8
NFC North: 1) Packers; 2) Bears; 3) Lions; 4) Vikings
NFC South: 1) Saints; 2) Panthers; 3) Falcons; 4) Bucs
NFC West: 1) 49ers; 2) Seattle; 3) Rams; 5) Cardinals
Playoff Seeds:
1) 49ers -- Of course I'm being a homer here. But I want to just say this with one huge caveat -- everything depends on Justin Smith remaining healthy. Justin Smith is getting old, but he was still highly effective last season until he had the triceps injury. He has 2 good seasons left. All bets are off if he gets hurt, because Seattle will slip in as the #1 seed at that point. Depending on Justin Smith's health, San Francisco is as good or better than Seattle in every area except for two: 1) Secondary (which is partially negated by a superior pass rush) and 2) Kickoff coverage. The Niners' offensive line is much better than Seattle's. The overall RB corps are largely equal though I admit that Seattle has an edge between Lynch vs. Gore. I think Kaepernick and Wilson are largely equal, I think Kap has a high ceiling. I don't think Seattle's receiving corps, like San Francisco's, is the highlight of their team. I think San Francisco's front 7 on defense is much, much better than Seattle's, but Seattle has a legitimately great secondary. I think an excellent front 7 covers for a somewhat average secondary, that was certainly the case in 2011.
This is the season where San Francisco should put it together. Alex Smith is gone, thank goodness. The offense was a problem heading into last year and it's no longer a drag. If the defense plays like it did in 2011 -- and barring injury to Justin Smith it should -- then San Francisco is the best team in the league. No one, aside from Seattle, pairs an elite defense with a top 10 offense.
While San Francisco plays the NFC South this year, maybe the second toughest division in the league, they also get to play the AFC South which is the worst. As far as home and away games, the scheduling gods smiled upon San Francisco. I'll talk more about this below when discussing Seattle. But to summarize, they're going 4-0 against the AFC South, 4-2 against the NFC West, 3-1 against the NFC South (loss @ the Saints) and 2-0 in their other two games.
2. Saints -- I really like the Saints here over Green Bay because Green Bay has a crushing schedule to start the year. Three of GB's first five games are @San Francisco, @ Cincy and @ Baltimore. They'll be fortunate to be 3-2 after five games, they're also playing their other boogeymen the Giants on the road. I think the Saints fit here because they're going to be extremely pissed after last year and Sean Payton is one of the best coaches in the league and their schedule is much more favorable than GB's. They have Seattle and New England on the road, both probable losses. They're in a tough division, but they seem like an 11-5 team here or even 12-4.
3. Packers -- They'll go 5-1 within the division, but they'll then go 2-2 against the very difficult AFC North. Then they're going to lose the opener in San Francisco, that's four losses right there. Then I guaran-ass-tee a loss @ the Giants. I see a 10-6 record here.
4. NY Giants -- I still loathe this team. They'll go 9-7 and be contenders in the playoffs.
5. Seattle -- Seattle might end up as the number 1 team. They have some advantages over the Niners. A better home field advantage, a better secondary. Excellent and more plentiful PEDs which is really saying something given San Francisco's proximity to the former sports drugging capital of the world. I think Harbaugh is a much better coach than Pete Carroll. I like San Francisco's o-line and front 7 a lot better than Seattle's.
But the main reason I'm picking the Niners ahead of Seattle is Seattle's schedule is much less favorable than San Francisco's. If you go down the line, Seattle's difficult to semi-difficult games they have in common with San Francisco's fall on the road -- except for one -- against the Saints. Houston, Indy, Carolina and Atlanta are all on the road, San Francisco plays them all at home. While it is judgment call on my part that the Giants will be better than the Redskins this year, I think there's some justification here. The Giants have won two Super Bowls in the past six seasons and they still have the same coach, same QB and a similar o-line and receiving corps as they did in 2011. The Redskins aren't close to competing for a Super Bowl and RG3 probably needs more time to rehab. But Seattle plays the Giants on the road, San Francisco is playing the Redskins. I think the game at the Giants is tougher -- the Giants are infamous for playing their best against the best competition in the league. Look at how they've done against the Niners, Packers and Patriots the past couple years.
I think they're going 2-2 vs. Houston, Indy, Carolina and Atlanta on the road. I think they'll lose to the Giants on the road. I think they'll lose to the Niners in December on the road. Then I think they'll drop a fluky game to St. Louis or Arizona, just like what I'm predicting with San Francisco. Seattle has a great homefield advantage, but the only two top flight teams they're playing at home this year is San Francisco and New Orleans. Their other home games outside of the division come against Jacksonville, Tennessee, Tampa, Minnesota -- these are games they would have won regardless of whether they were at home or on the road. San Francisco's easy games tend to fall on the road. The non-common games are Green Bay/Minnesota and @Washington/New York. Green Bay is tougher than Minnesota, but the Niners get them at home in the opener and have played well against them. IMO, the Giants will be better than the Redskins -- plus, Seattle has to play them at 10am Pacific time. The Niners get the Redskins on Monday night. All in all, I see a game or two dividing the Seahawks and Niners simply because of advantageous scheduling for the Niners.
6. Carolina -- Carolina went 7-9 last year. They also went 1-7 in games decided by a TD or less. If they go 4-4 instead in those games, then they're a 10-6 team. If they actually got lucky and went 5-3, then they're 11-5. I like their o-line, their d-line and Cam Newton. I think they're going 10-6 this year.
Round 1 -- Seattle over NY Giants (they get one of the late slots because the other games are so awful, which makes the difference for Seattle), Packers over Carolina; Round 2 -- San Francisco over Seattle (Seattle treats regular season home games against the Niners as their Super Bowl, not unlike what you see from Utah when they play BYU, the postseason on the road will be another story -- quite honestly I wish BYU would treat their games against Utah as their own Super Bowl too), New Orleans over the Packers; Round 3- Niners over Saints.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

The winner of the Clowney/Bridgewater sweepstakes will be the Raiders. But the real winner will be the second worst team. St. Louis reaped a wealth of draft picks so Washington could get RG3. This year also has Tajh Boyd, so perhaps it's the third worst team sitting in the cat bird's seat.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Love seeing Wes Welker mess up and gift wrap a TD for the Ravens after he dissed BYU. Screw him!

San Francisco 49ers
Strength of Schedule: 0.535 (fourth-hardest in league)
Seattle Seahawks
Strength of Schedule: 0.524 (ninth-hardest in league)
These teams obviously share 14 of their 16 games, but the Seahawks get the Vikings and Giants, while the 49ers play the Packers and Redskins. Seattle has the easier slate.

That's not to say the 49ers will be a disappointing team; they've got better coaching, a stronger running game, a better front seven, and arguably a better quarterback. But given those slight differences, I'm inclined to think the Seahawks will be a better team in 2013. In fact, I think the Seahawks will be the best team in football, which is why they're my pick to win Super Bowl XLVIII.

At worst, playing the Redskins is mostly equivalent to playing the Giants. Both games are on the road and one game separated the teams in 2012. One indisputable difference is the Seahawks have a 10 am start time and the Niners play Washington on Monday night. That game is going to be easier for the Niners than that Giants game for the Seahawks. Aside from that the only other different game is Green Bay vs Minny. The Packers are undoubtedly better but it's the first game of the season and the Niners have their number.Originally posted by Walter Sobchak View Post<http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/...ombardi-trophy>

Respect.
But the main thrust of my argument were the home and away mixtures. For whatever reason, Seattle's easier games are at home and their tougher games are away. The reverse is true for the Niners. The exception is the Saints games. On top of all that, Seattle has five 10 am starts, the Niners have two. With most everything else being equal, these are the kinds of things that lead to a one game difference in the standings.
With all of that, are you really prepared to say the Niners schedule is more difficult simply because of of the presence of Green Bay, a team they beat twice last year, which they get out of the way in Week 1?Part of it is based on academic grounds.
