I know I've made fun of Matt Ryan in the past, but I think he's a really good QB and what the Falcons are paying him is basically the going rate. After the recent CBA, salaries for most positions seem to be going down while QBs are going up. Teams have figured out that everyone is in the same tight cap situation and no one can throw money around except on QBs -- it's the one constant that can almost guarantee competitiveness over the long run.

The question you have to ask is whether you can win a Super Bowl with Matt Ryan, and I think the answer is yes. They beat Seattle in the playoffs, the team a lot of people thought was the best team in the league. Then they almost beat the 49ers who came about 7-8 yards and a couple boneheaded playcalls away from winning the Super Bowl.

The problem was not Ryan or the receivers (obviously not the receivers, good grief), the problem was a rundown RB corps and a marginal defensive line/pass rush.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Seattle, San Francisco, Green Bay, New England and Denver have all had big injury issues. Seattle lost Harvin, San Francisco has lost Crabtree and Culliver, Denver has lost its centers and Green Bay lost Bryan Bulaga. That's an o-line that couldn't lost its best player.

Seattle and San Francisco will be getting Harvin and Crabtree later in the season. I have a queasy feeling regarding Denver this year with the PED suspension of Von Miller and losing o-line injuries. Baltimore gutted its defense and lost Anquan Boldin and Dennis Pitta.

If it's not Denver or New England in the AFC, then who's a contender? Does Pittsburgh still have something left? I feel like Miami and the Chiefs are going to surprise a lot of people this year.

The NFC has San Francisco and Seattle, but there's also the Giants and the Falcons (who I feel got better in the offseason and haven't been nailed by injuries).

He was a top 5 pick in the draft on a team that lost its best defensive ends, playing with arguably the strongest interior line in football. I would hope to Detroit that he's starting, otherwise, I'd be worried.

What is their plan for him in the preseason? Will he play the first couple of games?

Well when you hear predraft buzz words like "project" "potential" and "lacks technique" you never know how a guy will be used. #3 pick Dion Jordan didn't start in fact he didn't see the field until almost halftime.

That's because the Dolphins are stupid.

Eric Reid isn't listed first on the 49ers depth chart and basically the only other FS is Craig Dahl -- who totally sucks. Detroit does have other DEs on the roster, so I imagine this is an encouraging sign regarding Ziggy. I can't wait to watch him play.

From reading between the lines on Sacbee (the best source for 49ers stuff), it sounds like they will be moving him forward slowly and Reid should be starting by week 1.

SacBee is really high on Collie right now. They said he is having a great start to camp. Also watching Giants postgame live last night they said with Crabtree out that Harbaugh mentioned collie as the #2 guy playing opposite of Boldin.

Green Bay has lost their left tackle, Bryan Bulaga, for the season with a ACL - shoot, shucks and other assorted comments

Saw a segment on ESPN last night about all the season ending injuries so far in training camp and how it might be related to the reduced practice schedule

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

AJ Jenkins update from the first half. Thrown to three times. One incompletion, one interception and one catch... Which he fumbled.

FWIW, haven't seen Collie in yet, but I missed the 49ers first drive.

LOL. SI labeled him as someone destined for a breakout season with Crabtree out.

It's too soon to totally wrote him off... But yeah, that's a pretty big whiff.
