Seattle signed Cliff Avril. That's a very nice pickup. If Chris Clemons can come back, which I assume he will, the 'Cocks will have a really great pass rush. Damn. And it's $15 million for 2 years. Not bad.

I'm kind of surprised at the acquisition. Avril is 26 years old and has put up really good numbers. I imagine he could have signed for more years with the same amount of money per year elsewhere. He wants a ring.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

The smartest GMs get stockpile a lot of picks and then have a lot of cheap players on the roster and as they gain value, they're still on a cheap contract and can move them for more picks. The 9ers, Patriots, and Ravens have all been good at that.
I think you need to add the Packers to that list - That is Ted Thompson's MO

Reports are that Roger's new contract will in the Flaco range
Looks like the Packer's might resign Greg Jennings and maybe get Steve Jackson

I may be small, but I'm slow.

It all depends on the price

The GB papers are saying the Packers might go as high as $9mil , if one can belive what one reads in the paper

They are also saying Jackson is the more important priority

The best signing of free agency has been Cliff Avril for 2 years at $15 million with Seattle. Low risk contract on a productive player who's in his prime.

I'll have to look at who Detroit has signed, but it appears as if there is now a need on that team for a DE with Avril's departure and after cutting Kyle Vanden Bosch. Given their coaching staff's experience with him in the Senior Bowl, I can't help but think there is a very solid possibility that they're going to pick Ansah with the #5 overall pick.

The Lions signed Jason Jones out of Seattle, and it appears as if he'll be used at DE. If Eric Fisher is still available at #5, they may pick him and not Ziggy.

Kruger to Cleveland. 5 years, $40M. Good for Paul.

Sean Smith to KC. 3 years, $18M ($11M guaranteed).

I guess the Lions signed Reggie Bush. I don't follow Detroit enough to know what kind of impact this will be.

Sean Smith didn't get the 5 for 50 he was hoping for. I watched every game he played in a Dolphins uniform, I was very high on him. For some reason the 2nd half of this season (after looking all world in the first half) he was terrible. He gave up the most big plays in the NFL, he couldn't tackle, and was constantly out of position.

I think he's going to flop in Cleveland. Kruger is a nice athlete, but a lot of his success I think comes from the guys he lined up next to. Jason Cole of Yahoo! said that Kruger should give half of his salary to Suggs and Ngata on the local radio here.

It looks like the bottom is falling out for the free agent CBs, there's a lot of them up for grabs. But the market is even more engorged with safeties, there are a ton of guys available.

There aren't a ton of d-linemen apparently, Ricky Jean-Francois who was a decent backup for the 49ers is getting about $5.5 a year from the Colts, which is ridiculous. But then again, the Niners signed Glenn Dorsey to a 2 year contract for around $3.5 million a year (not bad) and Seattle got Avril for $7.5 million a year. I'm shocked at the Jean-Francois contract. The Colts are spending like drunken sailors. But the Bucs haven't been much better with giving Dashon Goldson $8 million per year.

I can't believe anyone is paying Sean Smith that much.

The market for DLineman is just nuts. It's like a good center in the NBA. Even the crappy ones get overpaid.

I have a couple friends who are Chiefs fans and they're pretty disappointed in how Dorsey turned out, but he goes out and still gets 7 million from the 9ers.

Kruger had 4 sacks in 8 games when Suggs was injured. As soon as he came back and became the focal point Kruger had 9 1/2 sacks over the next 12 games. That would be a concern, however it is Cleveland and they are the Jazz of the NFL when it cames to free agent destinations. You take what you can get.
