The M's have called up their three best positional prospects in the last few months (Franklin, Miller, Zunino). Franklin has played extremely well, and the others have had their moments. They took consecutive series on the road against quality opponents in Texas and Cincy, and are drubbing the Red Sox tonight. The last couple weeks have felt like what I hope the upcoming Jazz season will feel like. The young guys have struggled some, but on the nights they come through it's exciting because you know they're going to be around for a while. And Smoak has been absolutely scorching the ball as of late, so that's nice to see.
Old man Ibanez hit his 22nd tonight. 7 more to catch the Splendid Splinter for most HR's ever by a player his age.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.
It feels like the M's are close to turning the corner. They're still a long ways from challenging for the pennant, but it's good to see some life. One aspect they're missing is that winning edge. They have been very close in quite a few games. Sometimes it feels like they find ways to lose. I suspect that winning edge will come with time.

There's finally a glimmer of hope! They still need Ackley to rebound (can't figure that guy out, the way he killed AAA should translate at least some, right?) In addition to the positional guys, a lot of the arms look like they'll pan out. Ramirez is again throwing well in AAA and due for a call up, Hultzen has killed AAA, and Walker at just 20 (youngest in Tacoma since Felix) has given up just one run in his first three AAA starts. Some of those guys will look good behind Felix and Iwakuma in the rotation.

Going to the game tonight. Iwakuma starting. Last game I went to (LDS night, June 21st) Iwakuma gave up 3 bombs and lost at home for the first time.

I'm pretty excited about the future of the pitching rotation. I'm trying to not Jinx Walker, but if he pans out... WOW!!! Him and Felix 1 and 2 would be awesome. Walter, try not to jinx Iwakuma. ;-) The Mariners do a decent job of hitting for average. They just have a terrible time hitting with runners in position. Once they start doing that, I think they'll be fine. They do need to pick up a closer or get Wilhelmsen figured out.

Does it hurt to know you traded Adam Jones, Chris Tillman, George Sherill and Kam Mickolio (UVSC alum) to Baltimore for 250 innings (over 2 1/2 seasons) of Erik Bedard?
It's been awhile since I've heard this mentioned on the radio (not that I tune in every day)... so, no? You can still hear about the Lowe/Varitek for Slocomb trade though.

I'm actually kind of numb to it. If you look back to see who has come through and left the Mariners system and what they got for those players, it's pretty astonishing. I expect that the Mariners will always continue to trade away young talent in order to get a veteran that doesn't perform/or is short term.

Is there a longer name in baseball than Saltalamacchia? Barely fits on his jersey.

Ortiz follows with a double that probably put a dent in the outfield wall.
Napoli bombs.
That's three.

Chris Tillman was added to the All-star team. Tillman and Adam Jones both all-stars.
George Sherill was also an All-star the year after he left Seattle. Yikes is this one of the most lopsided trades in MLB history?

Do you know how much those guys would have cost? Come on. We can't be handing out paychecks like that. We have large video boards that need to be installed. A payroll like that would have cost us the scoreboard. You don't become one of the worst franchises in sports history without having idiots in the front offices.
Also, if you can just kick a little bit to the left, that's the sweet spot in my nuts for making it really hurt!
