If the Lakers didn't need a reason to trade him....

Mitch said that LO would still be a Laker if it weren't for his trade request after the Paul deal fell through.

That's a rip. Jimmer is worth it I guess.

Anybody with DirecTV should call and say they want to cancel unless they can get a lower price -- they usually will cut off between $20 and $50.

            • The latest is Howard staying in Orlando. Strange.

Tim Legler is funny. He doesn't get it. He keeps trying to say that New Jersey is the best fit because there "he can elevate a franchise to take them to heights they've never been before and he's never been before." Says anyone can go to LA and team with Kobe and get on the championship bandwagon. That's not special.

              • Chad Ford reporting that New Jersey offered Brook Lopez + first round picks in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 + Houston's first round pick in 2011.

But that kind of deal wouldn't get Hedo off of Orlando's books. But it would put them at about $41 M in payroll so far this year. So it would have been Lopez + free agent signing this year + all of those picks.

That sounds like the Vikings deal for Herschel Walker.

                  • 5 freakin picks? I don't think I've ever seen that many picks attached to a trade.

                    • What the NBA is doing to Chris Paul is ridiculous. The trades offered by both the Lakers and Clippers were more than fair. What they were trying to extract out of the Clippers is lol funny. There's no effing way Chris Paul is going to resign with this trainwreck and they'll get nothing for him.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

It reminded me of the TWolves punishment on Joe Smith's contract.

That's a lot of not-very-valuable picks and a center who doesn't block shots or rebound. I can see why Orlando didn't bite.

6 rpg last year for Lopez; a 10% reb rate. Just about what you'd expect from one of the Robin and Brook twins.

The Houston pick is top 14 protected for 3-4 years.

So no, not a great deal. But it would give Orlando $14 M in cap space this year. Not a lot of good talent on the market right now so the real value in that would have to be found in a trade at some point. The hefty trade exception that would be acquired could pique interest from some teams.

So maybe the deal is for Lopez + 5 first round picks + a player along the lines of Luol Deng or Kevin Martin. Still not a very good return for the best center in the league. Unless New Jersey is willing to send over their 4 picks with no protection on them. Get a handful of unprotected picks and the gamble becomes less one sided.

Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson, and 3 1st round picks. Now you're talking. Or throw in Deng for Gibson if Chi is taking Hedo.

That Stu Jackson is now handling trade offers should tell you all you need to know. The guy was possibly the worst GM ever.
