I'll go on record again and say he'll miraculously be back for the start of the regular season.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

Carp vs Gallardo in Game 3. If the Cards win that game, they'll go to the World Series.

Robin Ventura hit a grand slam in the 15th inning in 1999. They scored it as a single because people were hugging on the basepaths. I am counting that.

It doesn't count if it's not in the books. Sorry, just being honest.

The thing about baseball is that even in a 7 game series anybody can win it. You could invite the team with the worst record in the regular season to the playoffs and they would win a playoff series or two on a fairly regular basis. In a 15 year span like the one mentioned above, they would probably get a World Series title or two.

Exhibit A - The Orioles vs the Red Sox this year - when the Sox had to win games, they still couldn't get it done against one of the worst teams in baseball. Prior to their series' with the O's they were the 5th or 6th best team in baseball while the O's were the 3rd or 4th worst team. That was like their playoffs, yet the Sox still couldn't do it. O's won 5 out of 7 down the stretch.

That the best or 2nd best team only won it all 5 times since '95 and the 5th best or worse has won it 6 is staggering. I'm not sure if this is good or bad for baseball.

It would be interesting to see a contrasting stat for the NBA - I would imagine the best or 2nd best regular season record wins 80-90% of the time. Similarly I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

I don't need encouragement on this one. I know that I'm right damnit. I'm rarely right, but on this one I'm right.

I'm torn in baseball. I really do love the wild card. It adds a lot of excitement to the game in the regular season. However, it really has led to some completely undeserving teams win the World Series.

I like it, I understand it gives the opportunity for a "lesser" team to win it, but that to me is what makes it great! I don't get the whole "undeserving teams winning" thing, how is that even possible? A team must get to the playoffs, so typically need to win at least 90 games, and then they must perform at a high level when it counts. Unexpected teams have won, not undeserving, IMO.

2006 Cardinals were undeserving. 83 wins and only a +19 run differential.

I'm at Comerica. The rain has pretty much stopped. The crowd is pretty amped already. They are expecting a first pitch in fifteen minutes. Little SIS and I are sitting on the 1st base line about halfway into right field. We're in the third row wearing BYU gear.
