I also think it was because of the proximity to the start of the NFL season. Right now we're still a couple months from training camp. As we get closer to that, I'm guessing the talk will pick up.

Well, given that training camp usually starts the end of September, we're about 6 weeks away from that date. The NBA doesn't have the offseason that the NFL does. Given how far apart the two sides seem to be, I don't think we're going to have a season until December at the earliest.

Just listened to the Sports Guy podcast and his interview with David Stern. Pretty interesting interview. But it just solidified in my mind that this entire season is in serious jeopardy. Nobody is really going to start feeling pressure until the first paychecks are missed in November and I don't see a quick resolution. I sure hope that I am wrong.

Here's the good news. Portland area police say they believe that Memphis Grizzlies forward (and sometimes Portland resident) Zach Randolph(notes) did not beat a suspected drug dealer over the head with a pool cue over the weekend.

Beyond that? It's not looking too good for Z-Bo, who had apparently cleaned his off-court life around in the two years since he was traded to Memphis.

Police suspect that Randolph invited a gentleman by the name of James Ruben Beasley to a party at his West Linn, Oregon mansion early on Sunday morning, with the expectation that Beasley would be selling marijuana to his party guests. Randolph and his friends were celebrating into wee hours following a chartered cruise on the Willamette River.

It basically says that the Owners are going to win this no matter what. And not only win, but annihilate the players and union. It says that Stern will give them a nugget but take everything else so that the players can save some face. It ends with this:

The owners have already won this fight, and it’s just a matter of how greedy they want to get. It’s Stern’s job, his moral duty, to sit the hard-line owners and empty the bench so late in a blowout. This lockout was always ending when the owners were done running up the score, and now it’s on David Stern to be the closer.

With all the conference expansion stuff going on and college football in full gear, I kind of stopped caring about the NBA lockout. Based on the lack of movement in negotiations and the little coverage this issue seems to be getting in the national media, looks like most people have stopped caring. This bodes well for the owners, not well for the players.

If there is no NBA season, I won't care that much. I can always sit back and enjoy watching the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup.

I love the NBA. If they can get this signed in the next week or two and we get a full season, I will be happy. If this continues to drag along for another month or two and gets signed, I won't have much interest in a truncated season. 50 games in 3-4 months is not much appeal to me.
