Actually good point. No, it was not and judging by the info we had at the time, it did not sound like competitive softball to me. However, I think she deserves the benefit of the doubt in this case.

No idea about the use of the chapel, either. Would be nice to get some closure.

As the only documented member of a championship softball team on the board, I'm frankly kind of surprised my opinion hasn't been solicited more in this thread.

Wise decision to pass on this, DDD.

The last sentence is the funniest. You know when it is a key moment? When the next hit you give up is going to result in a run. After giving up 15-20 runs, my guess is that they key moment has passed.

I didn't know we had so many serious softball players on this board beyond just KatyLied.
This is getting past the original point you jumped in on, but why is the number of runs relevant to whether or not there could be a pitching or other defensive related strategy in a key possession of a game? In basketball, there are over 100 points scored in a game. 100 POINTS OMG, SO THAT'S SO MANY!! Does this mean there is no defensive strategy. If there's ever an offensive outburst in an NBA game and the score is 150-150, would it be ludicrous for a coach to call a time out to talk about a defensive strategy on a key possession?

Oh, there could definitely be a strategy. It just isn't a very effective one.

Are you the team stats guy?

If this is your way of apologizing after not backing down from a ridiculous stance until you got in way over your head, then I accept.

Trying to just stick to math here, I don't think you ever put the winning run on base unless there is a HUGE dropoff to the next hitter.

And I doubt in slow pitch softball that there would ever be that big a dropoff to the next hitter.

You just want to give your team the most possible opportunities to make that third out and an intentional walk takes away one of those opportunities.

bingo. everyone is slow pitch softball is a masher because the pitching isnt overly determinative.

Add another one to the list of people that agree with EPU and MarkGrace, guys that actually played ball.

In CJ's situation, it's a tough call. Whether to pitch straight up, to pitch around the batter, or to walk. There are pro's and con's of any of these strategies. The person who struck out in this thread was the one made an ass of himself going on and on ridiculing a perfectly viable tactic in the hypo. A tactic that is used in nearly every competitive softball game.

I've never hit a softball homerun.

                            I played ball too!

Oh, you meant baseball. Because I thought everyone was talking about softball.

                            Carry on.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Based on the contents of this thread, I'm pretty sure we should not permit DDD to determine the competitive level of KL's family softball game.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

But he's got a list of 3 people that played ball! Plus his team won intramural coed softball, can't argue with that.
