Danny might have sucked it up in the 40, bench, vert and broad, but he destroyed the field (1st among all safeties and DB's) in the 3 cone drill, 20 yd shuttle and 60 yd shuttle. Great job by him there. He might have a shot yet.

He'll be a special teams specialist for a long time if he stays healthy. He was the first guy down in every kickoff and punt coverage team. His cone numbers reflect that.

Barry Switzer has conflicted feelings about Manziel:

He's the best I've seen. I've never seen a quarterback in college football take control of a game like he does and put up the numbers he does. It's fantastic what he's done against good competition. Game after game after game the numbers he puts up are staggering," Switzer said. "And when you watch him, you think he's a running back. You can't get to him, he's quick, he has more quickness than he does speed. He's elusive. You can't touch him. ... Strong arm. You watch him on film and tape and I've watched him enough -- the guy is oblivious to the rush. He lets you think you're going to touch him and then he disappears and he gets away from you and buys time. When a guy does that, guys are going to separate. I don't care how good you are in pro football, you can't cover for more than five seconds. Then they're going to be free.

I don't know how you don't have convicted feelings about the kid. He's put up insane numbers against the toughest competition in college football. First Freshman to ever win the Heisman, and a kid who is always capable of making plays no matter how bad the situation looks. You think back to some of the highlights he's had, and they're awesome. The flip side of the coin, you have to look at his reckless style of play and wonder if it translates. Can he stay healthy? Everything is that much faster and everyone that much stronger at the next level. Will he be able to maintain the elusiveness? What about decision making. The DBs are that much quicker, react that much sooner. A lot of the Riley Nelson-esque plays that he made absolutely will result in turnovers in the NFL.

In terms of comparison, Jerry Rice and Jon Gruden both compared him to Steve Young coming out of BYU.

Where I think the comparison falls flat is the fact that Young was dedicated to his craft. He was extremely intelligent (he graduated Law School while playing in the NFL) and you didn't ever have Steve Young getting caught doing things like this:

He's the type of guy that gets GMs fired, either because they passed on him and he turned into a stud, or they gambled, and it blew up in their faces. You'd have to ask yourself, is this the guy you're going to get leading your franchise, someone who isn't afraid of a challenge, who is never going to back down, who is going to lay it all out on the field?

Not to mention, he apparently killed it at his pro day. In general, I tend to think pro days are a joke, but I guess if you are going to have a pro day, you might as well knock it out of the park. In Manziel's case, the pro day may have been a bit more meaningful because it only focuses on the strengths of a pocket passer - yet he still looked very good in terms of his footwork, his movement within the pocket, his arm strength, his accuracy, etc.

I would take Manziel with the first pick in the draft. In fact I am pretty disappointed the Raiders traded for Schaub because I wanted Johnny Football in Oakland. I'd also love to see his girlfriend as a Raiderette.

Fools gold, IMO. Within 5 years he'll have blown his knee at least once and may not even be in the league anymore. He's an electrifying player, but I don't think his style translates to what the NFL is right now. He will be no different than RG3.
