Who's pumped up for the 2011 NASCAR season? Can Jimmy do it again?! You'd be crazy to think he can win #6 in a row -- but you would have been crazy to think he could have won five straight titles! How about those rule changes? I like the addition of the last two guys with the most wins getting into the Chase because it puts more weight on the victories.

And finally, how about Little E winning the poll position for the 500 on the 10th anniversary of his father dying in the 500? Hopefully, this is the year for him to get back on track because, like Tiger, he can move the needle for his sport. I know the France family is praying for him to do something special.

Tony Kornheiser suggested that Dale Jr may have gotten some extra help in winning the pole for Daytona last week and then yesterday Michael Waltrip wins a truck race at Daytona on the tenth university of Earnhardt death. Waltrip was a teammate of Earnhardt and got the victory the day Earnhardt died. Is NASCAR playing to the emotions of the redneck crowd?

Records are being broken in this race. Caution 14 is out. I have lost count of lead changes. It must be around 70.

I saw this kid race at Texas (which, I guess, his only other sprint cup race). He did pretty well there too. It always nice to see these low-budget race teams to do well.

Edit: He missed the victory lane turn. Too funny. Doesn't know where to go.

In restrictor plate racing cars need to bump draft to gain extra speed. Yes, the car behind will actually bump the car ahead of it. If a car doesn't pair up in and bump draft it loses about 5 MPH or so.

That was exciting for periods of up to a minute at a time. The rest of the time was spent watching everyone drive 70 mph and listening to southern accents while they ran under caution. The best way to watch that race would have been the 30 seconds of highlights on sportscenter. The only reason I kept watching was the HD (I still don't have hd receivers so only get local), I'm still mesmerized by it.

Thanks Ted. So, because restrictor plates are used at Talladega and Daytona to restrict speed, the drivers bump draft to gain as much speed as possible. Restrictor plates are not used at other tracks so no bump drafting needed. Do I have that correct?

Yes, NASCAR only does restrictor plate racing at those two tracks currently. Before restrictor plates cars were going 220+ MPH. I think Rusty Wallace holds the speed record of something just under 230 MPH. High speeds like this are more common in open wheel racing (e.g. IRL) but stock cars tend to fly off the track going these speeds.
