I think the comparision to Miller is apt in that they both are PG's that have some holes in their skill set. They are both physical guards that play below the rim but can create their own shot in the paint(Miller posting, Jimmer driving). Jimmer is a better outside shooter with much better range. Miller a better ball handler/passer. I haven't watched enough BYU basketball to comment on Jimmer's defense, but Miller was a good defensive guard in college(almost mandatory to play for majerus) and is good enough defensively in the pros that it is not a liability. How would the U fans feel about landing Jimmer on their favorite NBA team? As a BYU fan, I hated Bogut when he was at Utah, but I have nothing against him in the NBA, and, on a number of occasions, I've wished the Jazz would make a move for him. I know there are plenty of BYU/Jazz fans who feel differently. Do Ute fans feel the same way about Jimmer?

Showing my age here, but I don't ever remember a Jazz fan holding a grudge against Fred Roberts or Pace Mannion because of where they played college ball. Jimmer Fredette is the new favorite for national player of the year. Fredette has not exactly come from nowhere. The star BYU guard was a preseason All-American, after all. The Jimmer Show, featuring Fredette’s freakish blend of high-flying scoring and lethal efficiency, is now four years running. That said, Fredette had hung back in the player of the year conversation this season, ceding much of the individual national spotlight to Connecticut’s Kemba Walker and Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger, deserving candidates both. No more. Fredette’s insane 47-point effort at Utah last week -- which came on 16-of-28 from the field, 6-of-9 from the 3-point line and 9-of-9 from the charity stripe -- put Fredette squarely atop the player of the year picture yet again. Player of the week: Jimmer Fredette, BYU
Fredette had only one game last week but it might have been his most memorable.
The timing couldn't have been any better. College football's national championship game had taken place the night before, so the opening was there for college basketball on Tuesday to take center stage. In steps Fredette with a 47-point outing that had everything from a half-court, end-of-half buzzer-beater that he nonchalantly buried to a comical missed dunk. Fredette made six 3s, converted all nine free throw attempts and was 16-of-28 overall from the field. In addition, he totaled six assists and two steals. Oh, and he committed just one foul. The game was against BYU's hated rival, Utah, on the road at the Huntsman Center.
BYU and Utah are heading to different conferences in 2011-12. The Cougars will go to the WCC, the Utes to the Pac-10. So there's no guarantee they'll play twice in a season, although once has been promised. That added even more to the performance, knowing this could be the end to the traditional in-season, in-conference home-and-home series.
Fredette's shooting display rightly led "SportsCenter" that night, and he was trotted out for national interviews. He had impeccable timing to capture the midweek vacuum for the sport and, whether he knows it or not, advance his national player-of-the-year candidacy. There were plenty of other deserving performances from the week, notably Khris Middleton's 28 points for Texas A&M in a win over Missouri and Kawhi Leonard's back-to-back double-doubles in wins over UNLV and New Mexico. But Fredette, a preseason first-team AP All-American, gave a reason for those now paying attention to the sport to find his games and chart his progress toward a possible Stephon Curry-like Davidson run, circa 2008.Comment
