Cards trade Brendan Ryan to Seattle for an average single-A reliever.

Ryan isn't going to make any All Star games or be the vital piece of a title contender, but he's a very good defensive SS and still relatively young. This is not a good trade.

I hope we get an epic GNTS vs. Phils pitching battle in the postseason next year.

Edit: In reading the usual suspects tonight, it's as I expected - everyone is already giving the Phils the NL pennant. Ok. Yes, they look great, maybe even like world beaters, on paper. But least anyone forget, the 2010 World Champions out pitched Lee (0-2), Halladay (1–1), Oswalt (1–1), and Hamels (0-1) on their way to a ring.

I'd like to bear my testimony that I feel personally indebted to Cliff Lee for

        1. Telling the Yankees, to paraphrase Les Grossman, to "literally ---k their own face"

        2. For proving that people like me (and presumably like some of you) out there do exist in professional sports - that it is possible for a professional athlete to look at $120M and say "I can do everything I want and help everyone I want to help with that amount of money, and selling out to the Yankees isn't worth the remaining $30M"

Welcome back to Oakland, Rich Harden. I remember the good ol' days when you were healthy and dominant. I think those days lasted about 6 months. Harden could make a decent 5th starter for the A's.

Now it is time to swallow your pride Billy and give another offer to Beltre. With Beltre this is a team that can compete for the AL West.

Orioles trade two minor league pitchers to Minnesota for JJ Hardy, Brendan Harris and $500K. They also traded two other minor league pitchers for Mark Reynolds of the Diamondbacks.

While the left side of the infield is now pretty solid with Reynold and Hardy, I just can't shake the feeling that at one of those pitchers is a prospect that the Orioles desperately need.

Kam Mickolio who was part of the Mark Reynolds trade is a good buddy of mine. I went to UVU with him. Great guy.

What's your honest opinion of him as a pitcher?

Honestly he is average at best. His ceiling is that of a decent middle reliever but he will never be an elite player.

A's continue to be active this offseason and trade for Josh Willingham. Don't know the players involved yet, but this certainly upgrades the offense (which doesn't take much of course).

Looks like our outfield will be DeJesus, Crisp, and Willingham.

Ok, I can scratch him off the list of "It would be a mistake to trade him".

I'll give anyone $20 if he/she/they can convince Angelos to sell the team to someone who cares about baseball.

Wow, what an idiot. I'm glad he came through for us, but he was INCREDIBLY overpaid for two years, was he disrespecting the Giants then? And what's with the comment about good thing his finances are in order if he's getting offers like this. WTF? Is $1 million not enough to live on anymore?

I've heard that Renteria is a great guy, so I'll try to not judge too much, but this just makes him look like an idiot.

Angels reportedly offered 5 years and 70 million to Beltre. Time for the A's to offer 5 years 75 million as a final offer and see if the Angels are serious it is a final offer to Beltre. With Beltre the A's are the favorites in the AL West, he is worth the offer.
