Apparently Bill Belichick did not get the required votes to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. I would ask why an NFL Hall of Fame even exists if Belichick is not a first ballot guy. What are they doing?

Yeah if not him, who is? Well, other than Tom Brady...

I know his stock has fallen to rock bottom levels, but this is obviously driven by politics. Even after his falling out with New England/Tom Brady but before his North Carolina antics, it was a given that he was a supremely talented coach.

I get that Hall of Fame voters have the literal role of gatekeeping. But these old sportswriters and former execs carry these old grudges and purity tests that defy common sense and logic. Of course Belichick should be in the HoF. Same with Dale Murphy.

Adam Schefter reported that Bill Polian (GM from the Colts) was adamant that he didn't go in first ballot because he had to pay for his part in deflate gate and in the sign stealing accusations. Who knows the level of truth to all of that, but that is the thoughts behind it.
