If I were a niner fan I would be starting to worry about Kaepernick, he is on a streak of bad games.

He was 15/23 and two TDs last week against the Rams. He's made throws tonight when he's had to. The bigger issue is teams know they can take away Boldin and they have no other help at WR. Kyle Williams has been a huge disappointment. Not sure why we haven't seem more Quinton Patten. But their receivers have been bad. They need Crabtree and Manningham back badly if they want to duplicate last years run.

I have to think Collie could be more effective than a guy like Baldwin or Williams.

Patton is injured.
He didn't have to make any throws tonight. He's playing like 2011 Alex Smith in stretches. Fortunately the defense looks like the 2011 version.
Teams appear to have figured out that Kaepernick zeros in on one guy. Davis needs to get the ball more. Additionally, McDonald had done some good things when the ball is thrown to him. But the wideouts outside of Boldin are really bad. They absolutely need Manningham back. Fortunately, their schedule softens up quite a bit over the next few weeks. The most challenging game is that Tennessee game but they dint look the same without Locker. Manningham should be back pretty shortly after the bye.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
49ers have supposedly had trade talks with the Browns for Josh Gordon. Big risk but big upside too. I guess he was found asleep outside a taco bell in college with marijuana in his system (Taco Bell after marijuana? You don't say?!). Then he was suspended for a couple games this year.
But he's also on his rookie contract through 2015 and the Niners have a HUGE need at WR. I suppose we have a chicken or the egg argument with Kaepernick or the receiving corps, but I'm inclined to believe it's the WRs -- especially when your number 1 is Anquan Boldin and he gets his receptions by muscling for position against CBs and your #2, #3, #4, etc. cannot get open which then allows the defense to double-cover Boldin on every play.
The Niners have 5 or maybe even 6 picks in the first three rounds. The Chiefs pick is going to turn into a 2nd because the Alex Smith trade bumps the 3rd rounder to a 2nd rounder if the Chiefs win 8 games, which they will. Then they have the Titans' 3rd round pick. I've heard they may get a 3rd round compensatory pick after losing Dashon Goldson, but I'm not sure about that. So, they have the ammo to trade for Gordon.
Given the fact that Trent Baalke likes to trade starters and depth for 7th round draft choices, I think that he overvalues draft picks. But the Niners have a prime Super Bowl window for a couple seasons and then things become a lot more dicey as guys like Justin Smith, Staley and Willis get age on them (Smith already has some age). I think you take the risk on Josh Gordon.

Betweem Eric Reid and Corey Lemonier, I say every defensive draft pick should be out of the SEC. Lemonier is making people forget that Aldon Smith is out.
I think the combination of the receiving corps struggles combined with Lemonier's performance may make Aldon Smith the odd man out as far as extensions go. Who not to resign has been an issue because Kaepernick, Crabtree, Aldon Smith and Mike Iupati couldn't all be resigned (the team has already resigned Navarro Bowman and Anthony Davis), and many thought it was going to be Crabtree and/or Mike Iupati and resigning Kaepernick and Aldon Smith were the priorities. This season has shown how important Crabtree is, especially for Kaepernick. All indications are that Crabtree is rehabbing well. I think they're just going to keep Aldon Smith around for his rookie contract and maybe franchise him one year. Aldon Smith is an all-time knucklehead and guys like that tend to miss a crapload of games either due to suspensions or because they don't take care of themselves in the offseason. When Smith ages a few more years, he's not going to be able to dick around in the offseason and hope to be in shape for the regular season.

IMO this is less about Aldon Smith or Corey Lemonier, and more shows the importance of Justin Smith to this defense. The biggest priority IMO is finding someone who can help replace his production as he ages.

That goes without saying. Did you see the play where Justin Smith rushed from the outside and blew up the left tackle?
The silver lining to Aldon Smith being a dumbass is that it gives everyone a chance to see someone else produce in his stead and makes it much less likely that the team resigns him to an expensive expensive contract. They're better off giving that money to Crabtree.

They picked Tank Carradine as a replacement of Justin Smith. Justin Smith is a really great player but there was a huge dropoff between him and the guy behind him last year-- Ricky Jean-Francoise.
I was rooting for them to move up and pick Sheldon Richardson or to stay put and grab Datone Jones later in the round. Richardson went #13 overall and has been really, really good for the Jets. Datone Jones has not been that good for the Packers. Eric Reid, who at #18 I thought was the ultimate safe pick, has been much better than I could have hoped for. But I would have absolutely rather have had Richardson.

But it'll be interesting to see what Carradine can offer now that he's practicing. On paper he has so many similarities to Smith. And he certainly was a first round talent that fell to #40 because of his knee. We'll start to hear more news on Dial, the DT out of Alabama that was picked in the 5th round, now that he's been cleared for practice too. With Reid showing so well already, and now Lemonier coming on...that 2013 draft could pay big dividends for a long time.

This is what has me intrigued about Carradine. He seems like a borderline 5 or more natural 7-technique end, someone capable of lining up outside and being able to put pressure from the edge more similar to Aldon Smith, and less capable of playing inside like Justin Smith is able to. Yes, Smith can shift out, but he's equally as damaging as a 3 or a 5, which gives SF a lot of versatility.
The Panthers look pretty good right now. I'm really glad the Niners had the bye heading into this game.
Carolina has a pretty tough schedule on their back 8 -- San Francisco, New England and two games against New Orleans. Fortunately, I think they can go 5-3 and make the playoffs pretty easily. The competition for that second wild card in the NFC is not exactly rigorous. Basically it's between Detroit and Carolina.
