Crabtree tore his achilles. Could be out all year.
SacBee is saying, and I am hopeful that if recovery goes well, they could expect him at the end of the season.
I will be interested to see if the Niners go out and get someone else to add to the group they already have going. Maybe even give Moss another year, even though he did say he was going elsewhere. Ok nevermind on Moss: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...-harbaugh-says
Anquan Boldin is another possession receiver, though I don't know if has the same YAC ability that Crabtree showed last season. On one hand, this is really bad injury for the Niners and it seems like they've suffered a lot in their WR corps (Kyle Williams and Mario Manningham both tore their ACLs last year. Williams is supposedly read to go but Manningham is not). On the other hand, I thought Boldin and Crabtree were a bit of an odd combo of #1 and #2 receivers -- neither one stretches the field. One of the more ideal WR pairings within the past 20 years was Moss and Cris Carter in Minnesota. I'd say Larry Fitzgerald and Boldin were pretty good too. The Niners thought they drafted a burner in the first round last year, AJ Jenkins, but he has been a huge bust. I really like Quinton Patton, their fourth round pick this year, but he's not a guy that stretches the field.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
I'm sure everyone has heard about this, but Kaepernick was clocked at 87 mph throwing out the first patch last week at the Giants game. Supposedly he was clocked in high school or college at 94 mph.

Corey Lemonier, Vance McDonald and Eric Reid all looked pretty good. Carradine isn't ready to go yet and that's obviously the same case with Lattimore. Getting four starters and a 2nd TE out of one draft would be pretty nice.
Lemonier can at least get after the QB, but I'd like to see how he does covering the flat and TEs on occasion before I can say he'll be a nice replacement for Ahmad Brooks. And even if he is, I don't see him getting the full time position until after the 2014 season when they'd maybe seek to trade Brooks for whatever they can get (5th rounder maybe) rather than cutting him merely as a cap casualty. Right now, he'll be a nice backup to both Brooks and Aldon Smith who had NO depth behind them last year.

Don't forget Parys Harralson is back from injury this year to provide some experience and depth at OLB. I think Lemonier will be a steal from the draft. This draft class could be one for the ages if Lattimore turns out to be a player/gets healthy.

Lemonier was all-SEC as a sophomore, his production lagged behind last year but he had a decent combine. It's surprising that Lemonier could last until the end of the third round while a guy like Dion Jordan goes third overall.

Another preseason game and more of the same with AJ Jenkins which is zero production. He can't get open, he has a very hard time getting a yard or two past the LOS and then he's constantly falling down when the ball comes to him because he doesn't want to get hit. I didn't watch the Denver game, but aside from his fumble supposedly he ran the wrong route which led to an interception. On Friday, I'm not entirely convinced that he didn't pull that shit again which is also led to interception. Now we know why QBs don't want to throw to him.
Right now, the best they can hope for is the opportunity to Taylor Mays this guy. If some team offers a 7th round pick they need to take it and then high five each other in the front office.
Yet another bust of a WR draftee who can run but can't get open or catch the ball.

Manningham was put on the PUP list today, he is out until at least week 6. Sounds like Collie is pretty mich guaranteed to crack the rotation at this point.

Aside from being a Collie fan, I really hope they don't cut Collie in favor of AJ POS Jenkins. A move like that would simply be the FO and coaching staff not getting over their egos. As it turns out they weren't smarter than everyone else on this bum.
While it's not entirely uncommon for WRs to blossom in their third season or so, it's very rare to nonexistent for a guy who has had zero production despite ample opportunity and depleted depth in front of him to ever become anything. Why doesn't he ever get open? Because he doesn't run routes well and CBs know they can bully him at the line of scrimmage. Why don't QBs throw to him? Aside from never being open, he also is afraid of the ball which has been leading to turnovers in the preseason. I don't see anyone else slipping out there, but it happens at least half the time with Leeroy Jenkins.
The guaranteed money is a sunk cost at this point. It will only cost more if they keep him on the roster. Late round first rounders don't cost a ton under the new CBA anyway. Truthfully, I would be shocked if they could trade him away for a 7th rounder. After seeing the game tape on this guy, I can't imagine another team giving him a roster spot. If he were a 3rd or 4th round pick, which is where he should have been drafted, his ass would be cut this upcoming week when they have to start winnowing down the roster.

Taylor Mays was a second round draft pick. He was selected in 2010 before Harbaugh arrived on the scene. During Harbaugh's first training camp in 2011, they unloaded him to whichever team would take him off their hands so they didn't have the dead cap money. Cincy traded a 7th for Mays.
The thing is, Mays is still on their roster. He's not a great player or anything, but he was at least worth a 7th round pick.
AJ Jenkins isn't even worth that. I watched that game last Friday and Sean Smith absolutely ate him alive. The disparity is something you'd expect out of NFL level CB and a very average college WR. Average WRs from the college level don't make rosters.
Look at the CBs in the NFC West. Sherman, Browner, Patrick Peterson, Finnegan, Janoris Jenkins. Given how big of a pussy AJ Jenkins already is, what's going to happen when Finnegan starts talking at him? Will his balls ascend back into his body?

Jenkins traded to the Chiefs today. For WR Jon Baldwin. So the Chiefs got rid of a crappy receiver with drop issues, and the 49ers got rid of a crappy receiver with all sorts of issues.

Is this for real? I can't believe it until I see it reported with a link. Because this is one of those "too good to be true" stories.
