  • Five 49ers make it to the All-Pro team, more than any other team --

Navarro Bowman (left off the pro bowl roster though)
Patrick Willis, despite missing about three games
Justin Smith, he was listed as all pro at both DT and second team all pro at DE
David Akers, well the 49ers did have to kick a ton of field goals
Andy Lee, richly deserved, an integral part to the 49ers 13-3 record

    Second team:

    Joe Staley
    Carlos Rodgers
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

    • Alex Smith's final drive being compared to Montana's last-minute drives. Wow. How things have changed. I'm happy for him.

      • Greatest sporting event I've ever attended. Gorgeous weather, raucous crowd, and the most thrilling ending you could ever see. One article mentioned it was the first time in NFL playoff history that a team scored two lead changing TDs in the last 3 minutes.

I can't imagine what that would have been like live. It's the best playoff game I can remember watching.

I'm hoping for horrible weather in either San Francisco or Wisconsin depending on who wins today.

Smith's 29 yard dash for the TD was amazing. It looked like a college play. He's a real athlete.

            • Nice LA Times piece on the game. (Lots of L.A. folks have adopted the 49ers, in the absence of an NFL team here.) I hadn't realized there were 4 TDs in the last 4 minutes.

Fans around me were stunned he could run like that, I told them as a BYU fan I knew that all too well.

They may run him more next week. The reason they haven't run him more is so he could remain healthy, but now its's the end of the season.

                      • I'm happy for Alex Smith. After seven years of frustration, he's finally arrived. Until yesterday, with pretty much any Niner win the best I could say for him was that he played within himself and didn't cost the team the game. But yesterday, the 49ers won because of Smith. That was one for the ages.

                        • Delanie Walker is supposedly going to be back for this game -- and that's huge because the Giants' linebackers suck and the Niners are going to need production out of their tight ends. The Giants get by rushing four and dropping everyone else back. They have some great DEs and can get a very good pass rush that way, so that means you've got to be able to complete the short and intermediate routes. The Saints were the best at this and that's why they absolutely embarrassed the Giants in the regular season.

The Giants WRs worry me. I think they have the best WR corps in the league. However, their offense line is somewhat shaky, they don't have much at TE and their group of RBs don't strike much fear. I think the Giants will be able to make some huge plays with those WRs but not do much else. Along the way, the Niners will pick off Eli a couple times and/or get him to fumble.

I don't think the Giants are as good as the Saints. I don't think Coughlin is as good as Payton. The Saints' o-line is better than the Giants. The receiving corps as a whole, because of Jimmy Graham, is better than what the Giants have. The running back corps was better than what the Giants have, but Donte Whitner put an end to that on the first drive. As for Brees v. Eli, I think Brees is, of course, better but not by as wide of a margin as some people would normally think. Eli scares the hell out of me in the fourth quarter. Eli makes more mistakes than Brees, but he also makes more big plays. The Giants clearly have better DEs, but statistically the Saints had the better defense in the regular season. Jason Pierre Paul can't cover up the huge holes the Giants have at LB and in the secondary. While I understand they played well against the Packers, I can't discount the fact that the Packers' OC suffered through a horrific family tragedy this week. I can't imagine how the Packers' offense could prepare under the circumstances.

                              • Just a reminder that I am related to Ashkon and he is the one that did Don't stop believin for the Giants last year.

Also this is another song by some bay area rappers:

                                http://blogs.sfweekly.com/shookdown/..._49ers_ant.php

It is not as good as the Ashkon song but anytime you drop a Garrison Hearst reference you deserve praise.
