I remember when SF drafted him and I kept thinking... what?Originally posted by oxcoug View PostOh my. That Jim Druckenmiller image is classic. And it haunts me. I honestly think he was a worse 1st round pick than either Alex Smith or even Ryan Leaf. With those guys you had reason to think that they could handle the NFL game. With Druckenmiller it was obvious from watching him at Va Tech that he was a meathead with a big arm.
Somebody like Jake Plummer would have been a much better fit.

Dwight Clark's shame. That pick was also on Policy. Even Kiper was on Drunkenmiller's jock like no other.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostI remember when SF drafted him and I kept thinking... what?

Walsh, acting as a consultant to the team, thought the Niners should take Plummer. But what did he know?

I remember being so pumped when SF traded up to draft JJ Stokes. I thought they were going to be set with Stokes opposite Rice.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostThat is funny Jim Druckenmiller. A friend of mine who lives in the bay area and is a huge Niner fan was making me laugh last night when he started comparing Michael Crabtree to JJ Stokes and Sanjay Beach.

Kiper rides a lot of jocks. Pretty sure he would have done ANYTHING Brady Quinn asked him to do.Ute-ī sunt fīmī differtī

This is a great listen. A must listen for Niner fans; especially for those who were there in the golden era, during The Dynasty. I love how Young still refers to the 49ers as "we."

Everything pointing to Harbaugh being the early leader but if not him the plan looks to be Brian Billick. Rumors are if he is brought in and Marvin Lewis is let go that the two could reunite in San Fran. A Lewis-Billick combo is not a bad one at all.

As much as I love Harbaugh I'd take a Billick-Lewis combo over him given the choice. Primarily because of their success in the NFL, particularly together. The only thing would have me weary of that is that the 49ers have already hired and fired 2 other head coaches in Nolan and Singletary that come out of his coaching tree.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostEverything pointing to Harbaugh being the early leader but if not him the plan looks to be Brian Billick. It's a risk-reward hire. I think you know what you are getting with Billick and Lewis. I think you will win games and should make the playoffs most years. But I think if you want to elevate your team to a perennial contender, you've got to roll the dice a bit. I think that given Harbaughs success at Stanford, his familiarity with the NFL and his brothers success in Baltimore makes him less risky than most first time college to pro coaches. I'd be happy either way i might also add. I think both would be good choices.Originally posted by Surfah View PostAs much as I love Harbaugh I'd take a Billick-Lewis combo over him given the choice. Some are saying that Harbaugh won't be back at Stanford next year. The main question is whether or not it will be San Fran, Denver or Michigan.
Also looks like we could know where he ends up as early as this week.In a year in which no assistant coach is assured of landing a head coaching job as was the case in recent years, Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh has emerged as the football world's hottest coaching candidate.

AP Photo/Marcio Jose SanchezJim Harbaugh's stock is soaring.
San Francisco, Denver and other NFL teams are eyeing Harbaugh and trying to see if they can figure out ways to lure him to their city. In the mean time, the University of Michigan is expected to make a major push to hire Harbaugh as well, according to multiple league sources. The one thing that appears a near certainty is that Harbaugh will not be returning to Stanford. He will be moving on, and he will have choices, probably multiple ones.
Despite the speculation, one of those destinations will not be Carolina, according to sources. The Panthers are expected to move in a different direction that won't involve Harbaugh; they are likely to hire an established NFL assistant coach. Those that know Harbaugh say that the 49ers job -- without a proven quarterback, without much success over the past decade -- would give him pause. But whatever Harbaugh's decision is, it is expected to come quick -- likely this week.
Harbaugh will coach in the Orange Bowl on Monday night and he could have his new home within days. Plus, if Harbaugh leaves Stanford, as league executives now fully expect, it also would pave the way for Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck to turn pro and become the No. 1 pick in April's NFL draft.

How many jobs will be available where there is an established QB? If the Giants lose today, that job will probably be available. The Dallas job will probably be opening up. I don't think Jason Garret has done enough to keep the Dallas job.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostSome are saying that Harbaugh won't be back at Stanford next year. Besides those two, the rest of the jobs will be open in no small part because they don't have established QBs. Is Tim Tebow an established QB, how about Colt McCoy in Cleveland?Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I guess Jerry Jones decided to keep Jason Garrett on as the head coach next season. Of course, Jones may just not want to hire a new coaching staff in the event a lockout occurs.
Also, I'm watching the Redzone Channel and they cut to the Chargers-Broncos game and then I realize that there's a strong possibility that Norv Turner will get fired. If Harbaugh wants to go to a team with an established QB, then San Diego would be the perfect spot.Part of it is based on academic grounds. On Harbaugh...
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/n...packers-010111CZAR’S SCOOP: Stanford’s Jim Harbaugh remains the top choice of the 49ers to replace the fired Mike Singletary as head coach. In fact, there are rumors that owner Jed York is willing to offer Harbaugh an overall package of $40 million. But one serious hang-up for Harbaugh is York’s interest in promoting Trent Baalke to general manager. Baalke’s promotion could be a deal breaker. Harbaugh would prefer to have the NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi as his right-hand man handling personnel. Lombardi, who had success in Philadelphia and Oakland, started his personnel career in San Francisco under Bill Walsh. He and Harbaugh are great friends.
