It is amazing what has happened to the 49ers over the past decade. New coaches coming in, what seems like, every single year - new offenses, new defenses, same bad football. Harbaugh at $5 million is a bunch, but I think it could still make sense. But having to choose between two bad franchises right now - Miami or SF? I really don't know where he will have a better chance at winning long term. If he likes the Bay Area...I would probably stick around even for less money...$2 million or more less, that would be a tough one.

I'll tell you right now that he'll have an easier time in the NFC West. The Pats look like they're going to dominate the AFC East for the foreseeable future and the Jets look like they're locked up #2 for awhile.Originally posted by UteStar View PostIt is amazing what has happened to the 49ers over the past decade. The Yorks are dumbasses. Jed York said he was going to bring in some fantastic GM and just promotes some guy from inside the organization. He then said that money wasn't going to be an issue when hiring a new NFL coach. Well, guess what, Pete Carroll got about 6 million per year from Seattle to leave USC. Harbaugh is a hotter commodity and the Niners come in and lowball him at either 4.5 million or 5 million per year (reportedly). The Dolphins probably offered him 7-8 million because they presumed that the Niners offered around 6 million.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

It's funny to think that Jed York is younger than probably every poster on the board.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostThe Yorks are dumbasses. On that note...
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81d80258/articleHad the 49ers changed their structure and been willing to hire an outside GM, and meet the financial threshold Harbaugh is commanding on the market, they could have potentially had a dream team staff, according to sources.
NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi interviewed for the GM position Tuesday in San Francisco. Lombardi has strong ties to Harbaugh, but also McDaniels as well, with the possibility of having McDaniels as offensive coordinator and another former head coach as defensive coordinator.

They won't have to run them off. McDaniels will trade them within his first couple weeks on the job.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostAre people getting just a little caught up with Jim Harbaugh? Has he done anything to merit immediately becoming the most expensive coach in the league?
As it stands though, I don't like how things are developing in the Niners coaching search. Jeff Fisher looks like he's staying in Tennessee and now the Dolphins give Harbaugh some crazy ass offer.
McDaniels? Are you effing kidding me? Do the Niners want to run off Patrick Willis, Vernon Davis and Frank Gore or something?
Would Brian Billick really be that bad of an option?Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

Is Harbaugh really worth $7-8 mil per? Maybe, but Carroll accomplished more at USC than Harbaugh did at Stanford AND had previous NFL Head Coaching experience where he wasn't exactly terrible. Carroll was a much more known quantity than Harbaugh. That would make him one of the highest paid coaches in the league before he has every coached an NFL game. I mean, it's not my money, but it doesn't exactly come across as being fiscally smart either.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostI'll tell you right now that he'll have an easier time in the NFC West. Yeah, that's my point. McDaniels was a trainwreck at Denver.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostThey won't have to run them off. Harbaugh's not worth that money -- let the Dolphins overpay him. I'm not sure that will end well given competitiveness in the AFC. It's not like we're seeing the death rattles of a team like, say, Indy when you look at the Patriots. The Patriots will be very good until Brady hits his late 30s and that's another five years. The Jets look like a very good 2nd place team in that division.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostIs Harbaugh really worth $7-8 mil per? But I keep on hearing about coaches wanting to stay away from the Niners because of the disarray in the front office. I translate that as meaning this -- they don't want be beholden and held responsible for the decisions made by a 29-30 year old kid with no NFL experience who's running the whole show. I don't blame the coaches for feeling like that. Most of the continuously successful NFL franchises have owners who stay out of the fray and hire highly skilled people who have years of experience in the NFL.
So far, it seems like Jed York tacks more closely to the Daniel Snyder model. Not good.Part of it is based on academic grounds. This is why I love Wikipedia, b/c disgruntled fans can write whatever they want:
"In December of 2010, Jed York stated that money was no object in regards to hire a new general manager and head coach, yet in January of 2011 he cheaply signed Trent Baalke as GM and was outbid by Miami for Jim Harbaugh. As a result of this blunder, Jed "Mommy can you please co-sign my check" York has become the laughing stock of the league and has plunged the 49er franchise into depths so deep that even capable Chilean miners would not be able escape."

Except everything pointed to Harbaugh looking like he was headed to San Fran for a not cheap $5-6 mil per salary until Miami decided to offer $7-8 mil. Especially given the tax breaks available for Florida (big reason the Heatles all signed in Miami, no?) that is a lot of cash to turn down.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan;But I keep on hearing about coaches wanting to stay away from the Niners because of the disarray in the front office. I want nothing to do with McDaniels and at this point if it isn't Harbaugh or Fisher, I'm hoping it is either somebody like Billick, and I wouldn't mind Hue Jackson from Oakland either.
One question I have is how does Miami get around the "Rooney Rule" if they hire Harbaugh? Sparano was barely fired today, and if Harbaugh is the guy and is hired quickly, doesn't that violate the rule of needing to at least interview a minority candidate?

One other comment I'll add, I'm still pissed they fired Mooch. That move and bringing in Douchebag Ericksen almost drove me from being a SF fan. I felt like it was a huge mistake then and with hindsight it looks even worse IMO. They absolutely need to get this hire right. They have way too many pieces in place in a crappy division to mess it up.

Here is a question: Is it possible that Harbaugh has not signed anything yet - that all of the reporting to this point is nothing more than Twitter noise?
Bay Area media (CSN) is reporting Harbaugh is meeting with Stanford's president today and that Stanford is going to make one final push for him to stay. Does he leave them all at the altar and stay one more season with Stanford?
