Suffering through a Dodgers shellaking of the Yankees and Will Smith is up for the Dodgers. David Cone is talking about how Smith isn't really a power hitter and just pushes the ball to all areas of the field. Michael Kay just casually says, "So you are saying he's a slap hitter." I just about fell out of my chair. Very underrated comment in passing. Cone just chuckles and says, "I see what you did there."

Rest assured, you guys are winning today. Yanks likely to put up a 6-spot in the first off this pitcher. He’s plugging the hole left by Dustin May and doing it poorly.Originally posted by Copelius View PostSuffering through a Dodgers shellaking of the Yankees
EDIT: also, save Aaron Judge, there’s not a person on the Yankees I would trade slap hitter Will Smith for straight up. Not saying anything about Smith's ability, just thought the name play was hilarious. Never understate the Yankees'ability to make a middling pitcher an all star.“Every player dreams of being a Yankee, and if they don’t it’s because they never got the chance.” Aroldis Chapman

i know we try to avoid talking non-byu sports on this board (apologies in advance), but this japanese kid, Ohtani is pretty good at playing baseball.
game 1 of the double header - complete game, 1 hit, shutout (with a weak 0-5 at the plate).
game 2, thru 4 innings he has two dingers, bringing his major league leading total to 38.I'm like LeBron James.

He’s the Natural. A few years ago, I thought Trout was on pace to have a chance at being seen as the best ever. Now he isn’t even seen as the best on his own team.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View Posti know we try to avoid talking non-byu sports on this board (apologies in advance), but this japanese kid, Ohtani is pretty good at playing baseball.

What Ohtani is doing is unprecedented in the current age of baseball. It's unbelievable that he can sustain this level. To me he's like one of those complete players you read about at the turn of the century."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Bruce Bochy is a miracle worker, those three Giants WS winners weren't loaded. I was happy to see the Rangers win, the Diamondbacks are young and achieved far beyond what anyone thought possible.
