I looked at my fantasy team and got pissed at the start Greinke is having this year. I am in a keeper league and he was one of my keepers and he is not even close to how he started last year.

The NL west has some pretty sick starters in it.

      Tim Lincecum
      Matt Cain
      Ubaldo Jimenez
      Dan Haren
      Clayton Kershaw
Brandon Webb (although injured right now)

Since Funks precious numbers clearly showed us that the season Greinke had last year was no fluke, I thought I would bump this thread.

Halfway through the year the best pitcher in baseball right now is Josh Johnson.

Ubaldo has really struggled lately. Lincecum seems to have found the mojo again, Halladay is still steady. I also think Cliff Lee, Adam Wainwright, CC Sabathia, Yovani Gallardo, Mat Latos and Jaime Garcia are all having great seasons.

NL CY YOung is Johnsons to lose after it was Ubaldos to lose early.

AL CY Young is wide open right now with Lee, Price, Buchholz and Sabathia as the front runners.

IMO, If Lee is able to duplicate his first half through the Texas heat of Aug/Sept, the Cy young will be on his mantle come this winter.

You have taught me the error of my ways, we should not ever use the best information available to us to evaluate player performance. Last year Greinke was the best pitcher in baseball. All of his peripherals were great and nothing predicted a drop in performance. He isn't striking players out this year and he is giving up way too many HRs. By the way, you were also wrong about who was going to be the best pitcher in baseball this year.

            NL Cy Young: Josh Johnson
            AL Cy Young: Felix Hernandez.

I saw Cliff Lee pitch live last night. We sat 26 rows up behind home plate. He pitched 9 innings, 13 k's, and only run the A's scored was on an error by Ian Kinsler.

Granted, Lee was pitching against the A's, but he was awesome last night. It should have been his 100th career W and I read that 13 k's was his personal best.

I hope that the Rangers can hold on to him for more than just this season.

Lee is on a roll right now. Doesn't make something like 9 stright starts with over 8 innings pitched? He is a real throw back

I may be small, but I'm slow.

Lee is just filthy. 114 k's to 7 bb's on the season!

that is the stat just boggles my mind. I wonder if any of those walks were intentional as well.

WTF was Philly thinking? If they had held on to Lee and Halladay, the could almost punch a ticket all the way to the WS this year.

Didn't they give up Lee to get Halladay as part of the three team deal? I don't think there was an option to have both, perhaps I'm wrong. Plus, they had to resign Howard, so I think there was simply no room. But I agree, that would've been quite the combo.

Lee wasn't a part of the Halladay deal, but they traded him because they got Halladay. They were more comfortable giving Halladay an extension and wanted to replenish the farm system because they gave up players to get Halladay. I can see not wanting to give Lee a long term deal as he is 32 and had less of a track record than Halladay.

Lee and Halladay were part of the same deal actually, remember Seattle sent Brandon Morrow to Toronto as part of that deal. It was a three team deal with Seattle getting Lee, Philly getting Halladay and a few prospects, and Toronto Drabek, D'arnaud, Michael Taylor and Morrow.

I thought they were separate deals, but you are right they were in the same deal.

I would like to revisit this thread.

Lincecum beat Derek Lowe, Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee twice in the post season.

Matt Cain had 3 post season starts and did not give up an earned run.

Madison Bumgarner had a post season era of 1.25.

Brian Wilson was 1-0, with 6 saves and a 0.00 era during the postseason.

I still think the Cy Young should go to Felix in the AL (with Lee a close 2nd) and Wainwright in NL.

But Lincecum looked as good as ever through September and the post season.

I think without a doubt, SF has the best pitching staff in baseball.

I may be small, but I'm slow.
