We're eating my leftover chili from last night's trunk or treat/chili cookoff.

There was some bad chili there last night. Ugh. When we went through the line I made myself a bowl of mine I brought. She said I was being a snob. I told her that I know mine is good. I took home spiciest chili. Whatever that means. Especially since they awarded someone else hottest chili.

I've been on the road today and just looked at the 49ers box score. The last time I had checked, Houston was up 14-0.

I knew that Hill wasn't a long term solution at QB and I thought that the Niners were going to have to draft a QB next week. It would be Christmas morning for me if Smith after all the crap he's gone through turned out to be decent. He certainly has more ability than Hill.

It also looks like Crabtree is going to be good. I like to be wrong sometimes. Davis is living up to his potential, doesn't he have six TDs now? If Smith can be average, between Davis, Crabtree and Gore, the offense should be pretty good.

I believe Davis now leads the league in TD receptions with six. The last Niner to catch three TD passes in one game was TO back in '01. VD had three in the second half.

Crab looked really legit for only his second game in the NFL.

AS has never had a three TD game. It's too bad they came up a little short. The delay call on 4 and 5 was inexcusable, but AS has not had reps in the two minute since training camp.

It looked like a different AS out there today; in command and confident. Did you notice they ran him exclusively out of the shotgun and many times with a four receiver set. It was like he was back at Utah.

I got tickets to the monday night game in Dec against AZ. I will be rooting for AS if he is the starter. Gonna be fun.

I watched most of the second half and was expecting the Texans to blow it as usual -- maybe this is the year for the Texans to finally make the playoffs. My 9-year old son isn't really into sports and when the score was 21-0 even he said, "Looks like the Texans are improving." My response: "Just wait -- they can still find a way to blow this."

All three TDs were pretty similar throws to Vernon Davis. I was happy for Alex Smith -- nice to finally see him play up to his potential.

Singletary says Smith to start at QB.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Alex Smith is the San Francisco 49ers' new starting quarterback.

Coach Mike Singletary made the announcement Monday after sitting down with Shaun Hill, who was benched at halftime of the Niners' 24-21 loss at Houston on Sunday. Smith, who hadn't played in nearly two years, completed his first six passes and finished 15-of-22 for 206 yards and three touchdown passes to tight end Vernon Davis -- and he nearly led the 49ers back from a 21-0 deficit.

Smith, the No. 1 overall draft pick out of Utah in 2005, missed last season after reinjuring his surgically repaired throwing shoulder three days before the season opener.

Singletary said he doesn't plan to change quarterbacks every week, saying this is not a "flavor of the month" situation.
