  • "The fact of the matter is that we have Deron."

    - KOC after trading Eric Maynor

Deron is now day-to-day and the only "PG" on our roster is Price.

I thought you were kidding until I looked at Brown's line from last night.

30 points on 11-for-20 shooting (including 5-for-8 from downtown).

Yep, he's gonna get some money from the Jazz.

        • Wow was that a sight last night. 11th row just wasn't close enough to express the disappointment and frustration I have with these guys. Not sure if you could see it on tv but Ronnie Brewer on every single play pouted and threw up his hands if D-Will didn't pass him the ball. Apparently Ronnie is the only person in NBA circles that doesn't understand that Fesenko has a better shot at making a 15 footer than he does.

Okur made zero effort on either end of the floor and consequently was yanked. He has become the biggest paycheck player in the NBA. Several Jazz fans were mockingly giving the "money" sign to him as he "Eyored" his way to the bench. Boozer is in his own world. One which includes playing good offensive basketball and counting the zeroes on his up and coming contract on the defensive end. Selfish or not, he's carrying the Jazz offensively. Ronnie Price right now wouldn't get minutes in the D-league and Miles continues to make bonehead play after bonehead play.

No one talks to each other and Deron couldn't care less about his teammates. This team has zero chemistry and zero chance of effectively changing the momentum. For the first time in my fan history I booed the Utah Jazz as did many of the fans in the half-filled ESA. This is a nearly .500 ball club with upper level playoff talent and no heart. By the end of today we'll have added an irrelevant back up point guard to the roster and every day that passes the Knicks 1st round pick becomes less and less valuable. Tough to be a Jazz fan right now. Very tough.

That's a pretty ugly picture. The good news is that even if we want to trade these losers we can't.

Concerned about a lackluster start that has left them in ninth place in the Western Conference and motivated not to pay a hefty luxury-tax bill for moderate success, the Utah Jazz appear willing to trade anyone on their roster but point guard Deron Williams(notes), multiple league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Jazz have a payroll exceeding $77 million with five players making at least $9 million this season. Their dilemma: While they would like to shed some salary, they want to remain competitive enough to at least contend for a playoff berth.

Carlos Boozer(notes), who is making $12.6 million in the final season of his contract, has attracted interest, but sources said the Jazz have yet to enter any substantive trade talks involving the forward. Jazz coach Jerry Sloan has told management he’d prefer to keep Boozer for the season to help with the team’s playoff push, but ownership wants to avoid paying as much luxury tax as possible.

Rival executives think the Jazz have been asking for too much for Boozer, and that most teams who trade for him would want assurances they have a good chance to re-sign him over the summer.

Boozer is averaging more than 19 points and 10 rebounds and could prove to be a difference-maker for a contending team. The Detroit Pistons discussed trading Tayshaun Prince(notes) for Boozer over the summer, but one West executive said the Jazz wanted only to redirect Prince to the Portland Trail Blazers and now lack another team with salary-cap room to do so.

It’s also little secret the Jazz have been trying with no luck to trade forward Andrei Kirilenko(notes) and his hefty contract for some time. Kirilenko is making a team-high $16.4 million this season and $17.8 million next season.

            • With the knowledge that every player is on the trading block, why would anyone want to play hard?

Better question: why the hell does Sloan want to keep Boozer for a playoff push? Sloan knows damn well this team isn't getting out of the first round, so why not "sacrifice" a piece who will be leaving anyway in the interest of getting better long-term?

I don't get this at all. If our plan is to let Boozer walk, he should not be playing right now. There is no reason for us to help him increase his value on the market and get nothing in return. The guy has done jack for us and we don't owe him anything.

It actually makes me think Sloan cares a lot more about his coaching record than he lets on.

Tough to put that into action however. Imagine the immediate fallout from playing Kosta for 25 min a night with a healthy Boozer on the bench. Attendance might not recover even in the near future. Maybe their intention all along was to increase his trade value and not his open market value in July. If they don't trade him by February we will know the answer to the question of 'What the Hell are the Jazz doing?': They don't care about winning it all, just winning enough to stay afloat.

                      • The Jazz have been stuck in 48-win limbo for way too long now.

It's either time to blow it up or take it in the shorts financially to sign players who will get Utah over the top.

If this is the front office's philosophy:

Their dilemma: While they would like to shed some salary, they want to remain competitive enough to at least contend for a playoff berth.
then I am done with this team until they change what they are doing. Screw remaining competitive enough to get killed by LA in the first round. Blow it all up, aim for a high draft pick of your own (since the New York one isn't working out), let Boozer walk if you can't do a sign and trade.

Then wait out the 2010-2011 season. Play your rookies a lot. Lose a lot of games. Summer 2011 is the place to be... Okur is gone. Andrei is gone. The only two players under contract for that following season are Deron and Millsap, and I'm fine with that. Let everyone else walk as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather watch a new team underachieve than watch the same ol', same ol' underachieve yet again.

I don't think there would be much fallout given that Boozer has exactly zero fans in Utah right now. Also, it means more time for Sap, not Kosta, and I think people would get behind that since Sap will at least be here next year. (Though I wouldn't mind seeing Kosts or Fess take Memo's minutes)

I think that might have been their intention at first, but right now I really get the impression that they are going to let him walk. I guess we'll find out shortly.
