Watching college ball is hard because of the shitty overall play but the NBA refs knowingly giving star treatment is shitty indeed. Spoken like a true Jazz fan, right DDD?"Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

Jason Concepcion: Young Jazz, stand up! Win or lose, your Utah Jazz will be wildly entertaining this season. You’ve got PC gaming blogger Gordon Hayward, a.k.a. BEST IN THE GAME, earning his freshly swollen paycheck and inciting man-crushes in opposing coaches. You’ve got Trevor Booker — TREVOR BOOKER — hitting 3-pointers. HITTING CLUTCH 3-POINTERS! And doing this!Derrick Favors has been reining in his physicality, shooting over 50 percent, and logging a small-sample-size-theater PER of 28. Then you have the somewhat inconsistent, but always aggressive backcourt law firm of Burke & Burks; Rudy Gobert, the steadily improving en français Slender Man rim protector; the continuing adventures of Crocodile Dante and his sidekick Joe Ingles; coach Quin Snyder looking like the Joker before he fell into the vat of chemicals, and making the most dark metal deathcore faces ever seen on an NBA sideline.
The Young Jazz eked out a rousing win over the Cavaliers last night with a balanced, teamwide attack that saw four players score in double figures, paced by Hayward’s 21 points, seven assists, and four rebounds.
Hayward made his career on doing a little of everything. Against Cleveland, he simply did everything. He had this chase-down block on LeBron (it was an obvious goaltend but we’ll let it go; it’s his night):http://grantland.com/the-triangle/nb...zz-messengers/He bottled up a LeBron baseline drive late in the fourth to keep Utah in the lead, and then no-scoped the game-winner at the buzzer, after LeBron tied it with free throws.
How was that, Jerry?
As for the Cavs … well, in retrospect, maybe a warning light should’ve gone off when Kyrie Irving asked Mike Miller, “Is this similar to what the playoffs feel like?” during their second game of the season.
Actually, I hope he asks that every game. Irving had 34 points and zero assists, and all of those points felt like one guy, on his own, screaming into the void. Same with all the Cavs players. Sure, it’s early, but in addition to being vulnerable defensively — which is not that surprising — they’ve been downright miserly about sharing the ball.
According to NBA.com’s tracking data, the Cavs came into last night’s game 25th in assists per game (19.3); 22nd in passes per game (282); last in secondary assists per game (2.3) and assist opportunities per game (35.3); and 28th in points created by assists per game (38.5). Last night, the Cavs had six assists, or one more assist than Trevor Booker has 3s this season. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Damn. I know he had 0 in 45 minutes last night. The Cavs had 6 assists total, and only 3 of the 8 guys that played even registered an assist (Bron had 4, two other guys with one each). By contrast, 9 out of 10 guys that played for the Jazz last night notched an assist -- the only guy who didn't was Go Bear. Hayward himself had more than the Cavs as a team.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostSomebody on TV last night entioned Kyrie Irving has 0 assists in his last 36 FG attempts.
That's enough to make Kobe blush.
Hopefully Bron's Mr. Miyagi shit works on these guys because otherwise they're not going anywhere. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

And his TS% is just barely ahead of Kobe's too, so it isn't like he's knocking everything down. And then there's that small item of Kobe playing with Jordan Hill and Jeremy Lin, not Kevin Love and LeBron James.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostSomebody on TV last night entioned Kyrie Irving has 0 assists in his last 36 FG attempts.

Jazz taking 6 more 3's per game than last year.
Favors is averaging 3.2 fouls/gm. The same he averaged last year. And the year before. But his box score line is pretty solid through 5 games against some good competition: 30.8 mpg, 18.4 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.2 spg, 1.6 bpg. Would like to see his minutes go up to at least 32-33 mpg, but that's about right where he'd be if Snyder hadn't sat him with 2 fouls in the 2nd quarter last game.

Why was Joe Ingles added to the team? White player quota? Language barrier? I did not enjoy him trying to guard Lebron last night."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

You don't like his 1.93 PER, non-existant rebounding and 14% FGs? WTF?Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostWhy was Joe Ingles added to the team? White player quota? Language barrier? I did not enjoy him trying to guard Lebron last night.
No way in hell Jeremy Evans could beat that kind of production.I'm like LeBron James.

He's helping with outreach to the local Latin community. Trying to convert some of those Laker jerseys at ESA.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostWhy was Joe Ingles added to the team? White player quota? Language barrier? I did not enjoy him trying to guard Lebron last night.
I think I read that the Jazz are nearly +10 points/100 offensively when he's on the court, but also nearly -10 points/100 defensively with him out there.

I'll mark this post for when the Jazz win it all in '47 (The New Days of '47!!!Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostIt was a fun game and a good win, too bad you guys weren't around and commenting on it. I know you had to wait until the game ended to evaluate the stats and see how awful the game really was.
). There will be no room on the flying bandwagon by then.
