Holy crap. Seems like a good owner, but I never thought the Millers would sell.

if the millers were going to sell, not sure we could hope for anything better. but i would be curious how the trust they set up a couple years ago plays into this.I'm like LeBron James.

It was a matter of time that the Miller family was going to have to sell the team. I'd imagine they are not doing well right now with the pandemic (car sales, movie theaters, sports). Every single aspect of their business interests have been hurt by it.Originally posted by Commando View PostThis has me worried. The wrong owner can destroy a franchise. See the Knicks.
Who knows what type of owner Ryan Smith will be, but one thing is sure that as long as he owns the team it will be in Utah. That is about the best that Jazz fans can hope for right now.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

I'd also guess that this homegrown fanboy has more money to invest into the franchise right now and is probably more wiling to spend than Gail Miller. Also, he is going to be able to relate much better to the players.Originally posted by old_gregg View Postbetter a homegrown fanboy than a private equity fund looking for a multipleAs I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

The Miller's are doing fine and money isn't driving this. It doesn't seem like the next generation wants to run the Jazz so they needed to find the right person to sell to who will keep it in Utah. Smith is perfect. Billionaire owner with money to burn and shows a firm commitment to Utah and its culture. I agree that he will relate better to the players.Originally posted by MartyFunkhouser View PostI'd also guess that this homegrown fanboy has more money to invest into the franchise right now and is probably more wiling to spend than Gail Miller. I wonder what this means for RSL. Pretty sure he can afford them both. But if there are any other rich Utah dudes who want to own a sports franchise, they'll have to jump in now. (Todd Peterson?)

I'm actually pretty ticked about this.
Rumor is that if things didn't go well with the Jazz, dude was gonna make a run at the Suns, who desperately need new ownership.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

Exactly. Suns need a new owner, and to the extent that I'm a fan of the NBA, my loyalty lies with the Suns.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostI think he is ticked because he is a Suns fan and it would have been good for a energetic young owner to take over.
