I was just making an argument that I knew Surfah would agree with to attack MarkGrace. Fisher runs the point in the most effective offensive system in the history of basketball, and that has made Kobe an MVP and champion.

Agreed. But I might argue it's the times Fisher breaks from the offense and drives inside for layups that has made Kobe an MVP and champion.

Most of the time I don't know why we sit around dreaming up trade proposals, since they rarely happen. But I saw this on another board and thought it made a lot of sense.

Utah Gives: 2010 pick, Paul Millsap
Golden State gives: 2010 pick, Ronnie Turiaf

Utah's pick looks like it will be in the 6-8 range, and GS in the 3-4 range (before ping pong balls, of course). If it winds up 8 and 3, that's a pretty big difference in this draft, but I also think the gap between Sap and Turiaf is pretty big.

Why Utah does it: Utah gives up the better player, but still gets a guy who forms part of their 4/5 rotation. He's also a bit bigger and helps match up defensively with LA and Denver. But of course the big move here it to get one of Turner/Johnson and solidify a big-time wing.

Why GS does it: They've really struggled to find adequate 4's and 5's. Sap gives them a guy who can start and produce at the 4 (they've tried starting Turiaf and he's just too foul-prone to be a full-time guy) and get up and down the floor in their system. Also, half their roster is comprised of wings, so they pass on Turner/Johnson and take an athletic big like Whiteside or Davis.

Do you do it? Does GS? Would you toss in the Memphis future pick?

I would do it, but I think Golden State could probably command more for such a valuable pick in a top-heavy draft. I love Millsap, and he's going to be very reasonably priced after this season. But if Boozer stays, he is expendable.

I guess it would depend on whether or not Boozer is going to be re-signed. If they can get Boozer back, it's an intriguing trade. If not, you don't do it, of course.

FWIW, DX has Wesley Johnson at #8. I think they're wrong, that he will go earlier, but if you can get him there, then there is no way you make the trade.

Yeah, sorry, my assumption was getting Boozer back. Though that is the big consideration in many of these scenarios. If Booz leaves, I'm a little more comfortable picking in the 6-8 range and would take a look at guys like Davis and Monroe. However, if he stays, a PF makes less sense, and the alternatives at C are not extremely enticing (Aldrich, Whiteside).

I think the gap between Sap and Turiaf is pretty big as well. I guess the real question is whether a shot at Turner/Johnson versus Monroe/Aldrich/Whiteside/etc. makes up for that gap.

Lakers -4.5 is a little higher than I was hoping for. I don't want to bet LA and then have Utah cover and still lose.

Besides, these are hypothetical bets I'm making in my head. I don't play with real money.
