Utah lost all right to scoreboard smack. They lost what? Seven in a row? Then won three with 2 of 3 at home. BYU leads the all-time series.

From the beginning my mission here has been to help you all. I don't think the self-delusion that's encouraged by your culture is a good thing. I think it's an albatross. Undeniably, Utah will never recruit stride for stride with at least half of the Pac 12 schools in either football or basketball. It won't win as many championships as those schools, for that reason (though Utah has a better basketball tradition than any Pac 12 school except UCLA and Arizona). I've said this over and over again to my Ute brethren to encourage them to count their blessings and get real with their expectations. But Utah most emphatically been more than competitive now that football has made the adjustment and basketball has recovered from Boylen (indeed, we probably were able to hire Kodiak only because we were in the Pac 12). The football team was the second school to beat every other Pac 12 team. You are well aware of football and basketball's other achievements in the Pac 12 or since joining the Pac 12. It's interesting that you are keeping assiduous track of Utah's overall winning percentage in the Pac 12. I think BYU and its fans would be better off if they just moved on. As I said the other day, this has become the We Hate Utah board. How ironic that JL took Ute out of the name.

I had no idea of Utah's overall record in both sports until Art asked today in the rivalry thread and I checked out of curiosity. Took less than 5 minutes with the futuristic tool of ESPN.com at my disposal. Yet before Art asked the question, I knew off the top of my head Utah was underwater in both sports because I like sports and I pay attention. I would have been shocked if they were above 500 because they haven't had very many good seasons. But sure, keep lecturing me on obsession and not letting go. I think you're the perfect person to teach those lessons.

All you're saying is you disagree with their calculus. Other than that, we agree. I'm not sure if they should have done this, but I know why they did it. I understand the rationale. There may be no right answer. And yes, I'm sure they'll play again.

Utah loses their 3 best players by far after this season in Poeltl, Taylor and Loveridge. They also lose Tucker. The first three account for more than 50% of your offense.

You do return Kuzma and Bonam, and have a recruiting class somewhere in the 50s. The 2 year run for the Utes is over. Larry K knows this, you know it, everyone but MPfunk probably knows it. You are forced to rebuild once again.

BYU on the other hand returns everyone but KC. With returned missionaries and this years recruiting class they are bringing in 6 four star recruits http://insider.espn.go.com/college-s...&date=20151217. We all know the real reason Larry doesn't want to play this game. Time to dumb back down the schedule, get those home games against Southwest Baptist (be careful they have already beat you once at home).

The buyout is a form of insurance. Utah is in a demographic where those rates should go up.

They do suck but they are still 2 of your best players. Loveridge has shot Utah out of games (most recent example was Stanford, which I doubt you watched). Again I didn't say you couldn't recover but I did say you would have to rebuild, which is exactly what Larry is going to do. Dumb down the schedule and rebuild again. That's if he is even here next year, don't be surprised if he jumps ship.

Why is it one or the other? Seems most plausible that "Kodiak's" goal of avoiding BYU next year coincided with Dr. Hill's well-established obsession with killing the BYU rivalry. So they saw eye to eye on what to do with the series, but neither wanted to take the blame for killing it. So they apparently had some 4th graders in their PR dept draft up a reason and statement.
