Actually I think SU has a really good pulse on the real reasons for all of this. Utah has a long term plan to emphasize the distance between us and them to grow their strategic advantages and for the good of their program. The fact that that their fans view this as ultimate victory merely dovetails with that interest is gravy.

However, the execution of the plan has been done in such a ham-handed, nakedly transparent manner and in the process they engaged in obvious double speak, tried to turn the tables on BYU and claimed that we are the ones who caused the problem has made them look like uneducated, nouveau riche rubes that are paranoid to be seen with the old crew.

All of this shows that the institution was never ready for the big time. Think of how fervently they want to belong, and point the finger at their weird ex-rival. The entire Beverly Hillbillies institution and fan base needs counseling and inclusion in the prayer roll thread.
