Utah cancelling series vs BYU thread

No we're not. Utah cancelling the games reinforces that Utah is now on a higher tier and really the cost-benefit analysis of continuing the series doesn't pencil out for Utah. This is what's most damaging to BYU and why BYU is now always the side that wants the game the most at any level--fans, coaches, administrators. Kentucky refused to play Louisville for decades; it only plays that one game now because Louisville finally earned it. I think it's been really stupid of UW and Wasu to keep playing Gonzaga, although now that they've lost repeatedly to Gonzaga they're kind of stuck. But here in Washington they really don't get tribalism and blood feuds. This is the perfect moment to show BYU how little Utah respect them. When Utah has beaten BYU repeatedly.

Those Ute fans who support this are the ones who really take the Rivalry most seriously, because they're the ones who want to actually kill BYU, to utterly destroy BYU, by any means necessary. I'm sure Kyle wants to be done with BYU forever. The Ute fans like LAUte and Applejack who are not on Larry's and Chris's side must secretly love BYU, which disappoints me greatly. BYU delenda est!

This is exactly what I meant by Utah big timing BYU. The Utes hate us so much that taking a game away that we "want" means that they permanently win. That they are on such an exalted plain that they don't need us anymore and while they could play us out of pity, we don't appreciate it.

Honestly, I love the attitude coming from Utah's athletic department and fans. I would love it if Utah stopped playing all in-state schools in all sports. I don't put it past Utah to think that it would be a good idea, that they are above all of the other lowly schools in this state, but it would be a bad idea. Majerus thought that he didn't need to recruit local players. It didn't go well. The same thing would happen. Pretending that you are big time would hurt attendance and recruiting.

So, go ahead Utah. Stop playing BYU. You will miss us more than we miss you.

Majerus didn't recruit in-state, you say? This is hilarious on so many levels. One of them is that it's just demonstrably false. The other is that I'm sure one objective of this is to help Utah get more in-state recruits.

Actually, I agree with you. The rivalry transcends the games. It's just that you're going to lose, inexorably; like the Ottoman Empire's destiny.
