Apparently the correct response in Krysko's view would have been for Emery to have said simply, "It was just a good old-fashioned basketball game." Putting aside as best I can my inherent biases, I'm truly surprised how disingenuous the U is being about this. And following the SU-approved method of what a very substantial majority of the disinterested parties believe, the U is embarrassingly wrong on this issue.

You are right, though. Utah is now so far up on the highest high horse that any slip-up (and they are inevitable) is going to be thoroughly scrutinized.

The Utah press is going to have a serious case of Pitbull like lockjaw and Utah has made itself a sitting duck each time one of their players acts out in an unfortunate manner and the entire incident can be reignited each time. I can see wanting to marginalize BYU, but admitting your motivation brings some closure to your decision and doesn't expose your players. To be honest this is very much the zoobish stereotype about BYU and Utah of all folks should understand the consistent PR nightmare of putting your players on a pedestal that is impossible to stay atop. Perhaps, this is the intent to see how much it will impact Utah before really deciding, then if Utah wants to return to annual game versus BYU Utah can claim that the cooling off has ended and it is time to reinstate the game instead of then losing face for backing away from claiming it can quit BYU.

Thank you so much Utah. This is so much better than playing you guys in basketball next year. The basketball series is over. BYU owns the series record always and forever and it was stopped in the name pf player safety by a known loose cannon who had numerous brutal fouls and fights in his playing career. Seriously this is awesome.
