None of Utah's reasons make sense for cancelling the series. As Call points out, BYU can no longer trust Utah's contractual representations. Perhaps Utah wishes to distance itself from non-P5 teams by not playing those with possibilities of defeating it. However, Utah must still cater to the Utah Legislature and giving the finger to everybody there won't win any friends. So Utah is betting people have short memories and won't cost them any good will.

I cant believe they would cancel a contract for no reason except player safety or, euphemistically, cooling off or, more honestly, because they are a combined mix of unjustified arrogance and latent cowardice. And then, having made that odd and wholly indefensible choice, to actually make a statement admitting it? It is hard to believe.

The first half of your sentence apparently overlooks BYU's series-leading 129 wins; the second half is accurate, but only for the same reason that neither Tyson Fury, Daniel Cormier, nor Holly Holm will ever beat me.
