  • BYU Basketball 2016-2017

The tough thing about basketball is it spans both semesters. We had a football player in my 1L class. He had a light load fall semester wth the understanding that he would have to make up for it over the next couple semesters. Fall finals weren't a problem because the team could offer flexibility during bowl season (lol. This was Crowton era, so the bowl practice considerations were academic).

Basketball season is in full swing during fall finals, so by site how much flexibility there could be.

Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

    • Steve Young attended law school while playing for the Niners, although special accommodations were made to allow him to go winter/spring only. I think he was given time off for stuff like Super Bowls, etc.

I bet BYU had the highest average starting salaries for law grads the year he graduated.

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Which wouldn't work for an NCAA student-athlete who is required to take a certain class load each semester to be considered a full-time student.

How does that work when you have a degree already?

                • Why does the JRube have to be so hard on Jordan?

I'm guessing coach Rose said hey guys I have a bit of a schollie crunch, so maybe you can do me a solid and let this kid know that he can't play hoops and go to law school. Thanks!

                    • six hours is 1.5 first year classes. i bet aba requirements have something to do with the law school not being ok with it, although the whole thing seems fishy to begin with.

I don't quite get it either. First off everyone knew coming in that he had already completed his AA in HS, as I pointed out two years ago that him being a transfer seemed more likely to me than others as he would graduate after using only one year of eligibility, so BYU hoops admin knew that he would likely go to some form of graduate school at BYU. Then this is like really late. I think he should have been accepted to the Law School last winter/early spring.

My preference would be for him to get an MBA over two years instead of one and then see if he wants to do Law School during his final year of eligibility or perhaps he stops playing then. He really isn't that old, 22-23 I think, and even with serving a mission he doesn't need to be Doogie Howser and move this along too fast. My plan, should he choose to accept it, would have him graduating from Law School at 29 and have an MBA and likely multiple births at the Final 4 and a great excuse to not have to listen to Priesthood Session of GC the next 3 Aprils.

He needs a little Tommy Boy in him - "a lot of people go to college for 9 years!"

You don't think that would be distracting? And we're assuming he's married by then, right?
