Wright, as a PG, gets more assists and shots at the rim so his PER is better. Does that make him the better player? They play different positions and have different roles on their teams. Haws could have a better FG% but his team requires that he take difficult shots. There are times when his shot selection suffers because he has to be the guy.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostThe writing may be mediocre, but the advanced metrics are good in comparing the 2 players. I'm sorry that it is disappointing to see that the advanced metrics are supportive of Wright being the better player.
Who is better, Chris Paul or Paul George? Dumb question.

I thought it was a great. A few highlights:Originally posted by Surfah View PostWhat a fucking dumb article.
Last I checked (I am no Pelagius) but 6.4/16.2= 39.5%. Haws does indeed shoot 47.8% from the floor clearly his numbers are off.But Haws’ field goal percentage is 47.8 percent, making an average of 6.4 field goals per 16.2 attempts.
It continues:
Again do the math, he is inaccurate. 55.7%?Wright, however, averages 16.4 points per game, but has a 60.4 field goal percentage, which makes him the 11th best in the country and best in the Pac-12. Wright averages 5.3 makes per 9.5 field goal attempts.
Haws shoots 47.8% overall, 43 from 3. But his % on 2s is 48.7%. That would make perfect sense if Haws took 1 three a game, but he says Haws shoots three per game. Seems he is still working off his original numbers which makes everything incorrect. From the 3-point line, however, Haws is a clear favorite, averaging 43.7 percent from behind the arc while attempting three shots per game. Wright averages 1.6 shots from behind the arc per game, hitting just 25 percent. For 2-point field goals, Wright averages 67.4 percent — sixth in the country — on 7.9 shot attempts, while Haws averages 48.7 percent on 13.2 shot attempts.
I also like comparing assists and assist percentage between a teams primary scorer and a point guard. The other great thing is that he immediately discredits conference play, which I agree with I mean why wouldn't you discredit conference play where Wrights FG% has dropped over 10% since they started playing teams with RPIs inside of 250, or how about assist to turnover ratio? On the season he has a solid 2/1 ratio, but in conference play it is down to 1.5 to 1. His rebounding rate has dropped significantly, he is only shooting 20% from three in conference play All of this and his minutes have actually increased by 3 per game. Delon Wright is having a great season but it is stupid to compare him and Haws as the roles are completely different you can't compare a guy that dominates the ball as a point guard with a jump shooter that rarely creates his own shot and catches everything coming off of screens and set plays.
A better comparison (which I have said all season) is between KC and Wright and compare Haws and Loveridge.Last edited by cougjunkie; 03-05-2014, 01:05 PM.*Banned*

That one is so difficult, I think I better check that with python:Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostLast I checked (I am no Pelagius) but 6.4/16.2= 39.5%. Haws does indeed shoot 47.8% from the floor clearly his numbers are off.
People, fee free to use that python program yourself.Code:In [1]: 6.4/16.2 Out[1]: 0.39506172839506176

To be fair, I think the author is correct with this comp (unless I misunderstand your point):Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostHaws shoots 47.8% overall, 43 from 3. But his % on 2s is 48.7%. He is correct based on the actual numbers, but not the numbers he was using with regards to his 39% shooting numbers.Originally posted by pelagius View PostTo be fair, I think the author is correct with this comp (unless I misunderstand your point):

He gets more shots at the rim because he is better at creating his shot.Originally posted by wapiti View PostHow's this? Wright, as the primary ball handler, gets more assists and shots at the rim so his PER is better.

Nice win in an ugly game for the Utes at Cal tonight. I don't think I've seen so many airballed three attempts from both sides, although the best wasn't technically an airball--Wright launched one that hit the shot clock well above backboard. Cal followed that with an airball that missed by about five feet.
