Joe Lanardi said last night that he's never seen a regular season champion from a top 10 conference (forget big 6) that didn't get in the tournament...so Washington has that going for them. if CU or Oregon St. win the Pac 12 tourney, we might be looking at them and Washington and that is it.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Really? So BYU took first place in a power conference? Hmmm.

Listen, I'm done. Some of you are pretty sure BYU is a lock over UW if it comes down to the two. For your sake, I hope you're right. More than likely, both teams get in, so I'm done posting about this.

See ya around this board some more.

The problem is, you've shifted arguments from UW SHOULD get in, based on winning a "power conference", to they WILL get in, based on tradition. The latter argument is not very interesting.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I'll look forward to seeing you around. Just in case you visit this thread again, here's some education about the selection process from one of the media members who participated in the mock selection process last year:

Last week I was one of the 20 media members who took part in the NCAA’s mock selection process at the Conrad Hotel in Indianapolis.

Here are the main things I learned during the two-day session:

          • If you’re hot … so what?
Conference record – and conference strength – are irrelevant

At the time of our meeting, Alabama was 17-8 overall and 9-2 in the SEC, but the Crimson Tide didn’t make our mock bracket. Nearly a week later it’s still unbelievable to me that a team could be 9-2 in one of the Big Six leagues – with wins over Kentucky and Tennessee – and still not make the 68-team field. Time and time again, though, we were told not to even consider a team’s position in the conference standings...

The strength or weakness of a conference is also not supposed to be considered or discussed. Teams are judged on an individual basis.

          • Conference tournaments carry very little weight
          • The selection process almost seems too formulaic
          • There are no biases or backdoor politics
          • Potential ratings and headlines aren’t considered when filling out the bracket
          • The new format will be interesting [switch to 68 teams]
          • This seminar needs to continue

Two bubble teams in close games right now:

St. Joseph up 1 with 5 minutes left.
NC State up 4 with 2:30 left.

Edit: NC State beats Virginia and is probably in now. St. Joseph loses to St. Bonaventure and is out.

Temple lost today, and it sounds like Saint Louis is in regardless of their conference tournament performance.

A Billikens loss could really hurt teams on the bubble.

I hope BYU makes it this year. It would a shame if the primary difference between how BYU's year ended up and how Utah's year ended up is that Utah expected to be where it is.

All things considered I'd be very pleased with a cup of Sanka in the NCAA tournament. Especially since even an NIT first round home game would be a 50/50 proposition at this point

Not sure what you expected at the beginning of the season, but I was hopeful that BYU would make the NCAA's this season, recognizing it would be a down year relative to recent history. It's turned out more or less how I expected.

I did expect Utah to be the worst in the PAC, so you got that right.

                      USC was worse than Utah.

Miami lost tonight. They could be out. Xavier beat Dayton by one point. Dayton's bubble burst while Xavier probably has more work to do.

Cincy isn't a bubble team, but wow after that ugly brawl against Xavier in early December that team has come a long way. I know nothing about their coach, but I'm thinking he's better than Rice and Krysko.

                              Update on Washington vs. BYU

*Includes first game of year, predating Carlino's eligibility
**Include final two games of year

If you can't tell which team is more deserving, you have no business pronouncing opinions about March Madness.

If anyone disagrees with you they have no right to have an opinion. That belongs in Lebowski's internet rules of arguing thread.

I want BYU in and Washington screwed, so I guess I can continue to have an opinion! Yeah for me.
