I think Delgado can be a pretty solid D1 player. I am not convinced he will create a great deal on his own but if he can defend and hit the open jumper he can be very effective IF Matt Carlino improves and begins to be an impact player with the ability to penetrate. Austin and Davies played on the court a lot together this year. Austin played the 4 on offense and 5 on defense. I think he'll work on his shot a little more, and he can play the 4 on O pretty well.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostIf Austin is the starting 4 there will be problems. Nate Austin is just not a 4 for BYU. I will predict that Ambrosino will start before Nate at the 4. Nate will play some 4 but I think we will see Nate play about 20 mpg next year, 12 at the 5 and 8 at the 4. I think that CC will start and play about 22 and Ambrosino will play about 10.

BYU basketball: Other schools still pursuing Cougars’ coach
During a 30-minute interview with The Salt Lake Tribune, Rose said, "It hasn’t changed," when asked if schools are still contacting the 54-year-old coach who has guided BYU to six-straight seasons of 25 or more wins and six-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Last year, Oklahoma and North Carolina State wanted Rose before he signed the new deal.
"This year, I was approached again," Rose said, declining to name specific schools. "But because of the situation we have here … it was pretty easy for me to let people know that I am really happy with where I am right now."Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I didn't think it went real well at times. It seemed to me to work better when BYU was zoning on defense but I don't think either can cover many college 4's in man to man. I like Nate and think he has a great future at the 5. We shall see.Originally posted by jay santos View PostAustin and Davies played on the court a lot together this year. Carlino can pass and penetrate, no doubt. His shot started strong this year but then became an often facepalm-inducing liability. If Delgado turns out to be the marksman he's touted to be and THaws is on his game, we may not need that crazy lefty shot in the clutch... or best case scenario, teams don't sweat him on the perimeter as much because of THaws and he locks in his stroke..."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

IMO, his shot is fine and will be back. I think that after Rogers got hurt and the other shooters fell apart Matt was forced to try and do too much. I am expecting a bit of a symbiotic increase in perimeter play where the improved shooting provided by Haws, Delgado and God-willing a healthy Rogers, will decrease the load on Carlino. I expect an older, stronger and more experienced Carlino to then actually be a better shooter as he will be more proficient at picking his spots.Originally posted by Commando View PostCarlino can pass and penetrate, no doubt. I really like Dave Rose. This Martineau issue is an example why. Not so much that Rose pulled Martineau's scholarship and not so much that he did so to go get an insurance/depth JC 4 as I had recommended when I initiated this monumental thread. What I like about Rose is that when the dust settles he is going to award Matt Cusick a scholarship. Rose could have easily gone out and signed a JC 4, as I had recommended he do, while still keeping Martineau on scholarship and thus forcing Cusick to walk on one more year. That would have gotten no negative press and Martineau would have attended the end of year team banquet. But he did the right thing and rewarded meritocracy. Cusick earned it on the court and Dave Rose did the American thing. I'll bet he votes Republican!
That is not to say Cusick is good as he really isn't, but he proved himself better than the kid on scholarship and he will be rewarded. Dave Rose on the other hand makes my nipples hard.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

My last remaining "in" confirmed the scholarship offer to Cusick weeks ago. I think you are asking if there is anything that could prevent Martineau from being a walk on for his last year? As far as I know there is nothing. Martineau could do that if he chose to and the coach allowed him to stay on the team.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostAssuming BYU doesnt give out all its scholarships, What prevents a martineau type player from simply staying on with the team but paying his way for that year of school?
I feel sorry for Martineau but Rose still did the right thing IMO. Not just by wins and losses but by making it clear the scholarships goes to those who earn them.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

Is there a limit to the amount of players that can be on the team regardless of scholarship or walk on? That was my assumption.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI think you are asking if there is anything that could prevent Martineau from being a walk on for his last year? I don't know but there have been years when BYU had a slew of walk ons. I think you can have as many as you want on the team but there are limits to how many you can dress and travel with.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostIs there a limit to the amount of players that can be on the team regardless of scholarship or walk on? UNC is one of the few schools that still runs a JV program. But they let all of those players suit up for games and in most blowouts Williams tries to play the last 5 from the bench. So I'm not sure if there is a roster limit, but it is certainly much bigger than what BYU has been carrying.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostIs there a limit to the amount of players that can be on the team regardless of scholarship or walk on?
