So I counted and I am not even sure I am correct but 12 players have transferred or been removed from the team in the last 3 years. Could it be similar attrition in Salt Lake as to why Utah fans are so sympathetic to Howland?

Anyway, here's the list which will probably grow.

    Matt Carlino
    Drew Gordon
    Chace Stanback
    Mike Moser
    Reeves Nelson
    Anthony Stover
    Ryan Wright
    J'Mison Morgan
    Brendan Lane
    De’end Parker
    Tyler Lamb
    Josh Smith

That roster would beat this current UCLA team. As I mentioned before Howland has just 8 scholarship players. 4 are true freshman. 2 of which are damn lucky to be playing at all and if it weren't for the inept NCAA they wouldn't be. 3 of the other players are UNC transfers. Maybe Gasol will get to play now.

Yes. We needed Carlino last year. I expect him to find his way and be a significant contributor by year's end and into his junior and senior years.

For anyone criticizing Majerus and his style, just remember that no coach in Utah or BYU history had a run better than Majerus.

I'll take Majerus' boring tournament success any day.

He seems to be trying too hard this year. Taking wild shots on offense, getting out of position defensively trying to get steals, trying to make extremely difficult passes, etc. He needs to settle down and let the game come to him.

I get the same sense watching him. He is pressing too much. He needs to calm down and just play.

Too bad about Josh Smith. I watched the kid a lot in HS and he is very talented. Great feet and touch for a kid his size, but it was always obvious his weight was going to be an issue.

I read a rumor on one of the boards that he may end up at Gonzaga because of Donny Daniels and being closer to home. Not sure if that is speculation or what, but BYU might not have seen the last of him. It still pisses me off that we lost that game to them. Smith beat us up inside and got to the line a bunch. And worse he made them.

I'm still pissed off that Daniels isn't at Utah as an assistant coach. I don't know if it is Boylen or Hill to blame, but whomever is at fault really screwed up.

I still would have been happier with hiring Donny Daniels over Krystkowiak.

He's the one recruiting these guys. And don't great coaches adapt their systems to the strengths of their players?

Thanks for the morning laughter though. It's a great way to start my day.
Let me explain it to you like ducky horsey since you don't get it. You can't shoehorn Shabazz Muhammad into a motion offense. It can't be done. You can't do it even if you think that offense, if well executed, is the best of all worlds. Shabazz is at UCLA as a one year interlude on his way to the NBA. He wants to showcase his NBA potential. He's not going to leave 10 ppg on the table for the good of the team. Not unless he's unlike 99% super-elite basketball recruits.

As an aside, the motion offense can be a great equalizer where there is a big raw talent gap between teams. It's also the underdeveloped or less talented kids that are going to be receptive to a motion offense system.

The proof is in the pudding. Howland's best teams averaged 60 ppg and had less celebrated recruits than his disasters. I've been saying this for years. Shabazz Muhamad should have gone to North Carolina or Duke or even Washington. Howland doesn't get how to handle these incipient lottery pick freshmen.

                          I didn't say he wasn't culpable.

Thank you, Howland has ruined Pac 12 basketball. West coast hoops is anathletic, I believe you have called it urban, game. Howland came in a won in the league because of excessive talent, despite a system those players couldn't excel in. Much of the rest of the conference tried to follow suit, Wazzu, Stanford, ASU, USC, OSU and the much of the elite west coast talent started looking for programs that wanted to use them correctly.

Arizona, Washington, Cal and Colorado leading the conference is helping a revival of Pac hoops, Howland being jettisoned will be a boon to the conference.

So why recruit someone that doesn't fit your system? And if you're going to recruit guys that don't fit, why do you not change the system?

BTW, Shabazz isn't a chucker. He hasn't attempted more than 13 shots in any of the games he has played.
