Sometimes it is okay to admit that a guy that you liked failed. Rice's brother is Muhammad's high school coach, so he has a huge in with Muhammad. Basically, no other school in the country has the connections with Muhammad that Dave Rice had. Muhammad is also a local recruit. Rice has a great program with a great history to sell to Muhammad. Losing out on Muhammad was a huge failure. Even more concerning with all the advantages that UNLV had, Rice couldn't even get Muhammad to include UNLV in his top 3.

Bishop Gorman was Rice's biggest recruiting in and it is panning out for him as a head coach. He has now lost 2 players coached by his brother to Pac-12 schools.
Cougjunkie's thread was unfortunate because apparently it led to his demise here. But the thread was like putting a kick me sign on himself and Dave Rice. Unless Rice becomes spectacularly successful, another Tark, Utefans will always heap scorn and derision on him. You did it, zoobies. And cougjunkie is a magnolia for running off and refusing to face the consequences of his irresponsible actions.

Cougjunkie seems to have picked up his ball and left. This is my theory for why, strongly supported by circumstantial evidence.

Okay, I wondered if he might have gotten kicked off like some of the old crew.

No. He is one of the popular posters. But his Dave Rice thread was really ill-advised like when George Romney said he was brainwashed. It cost him tons of cred.

Actually, it was, I'm sure, the culmination of a lot of things. Utah to the Pac 12, BYU to the WCC, BYU independent, Jimmer leaving, Heaps' demise, overall malais and nothing left to hope for in BYU sports, more BYU race embarrassment including disparate enforcement of the Honor Code, and more. The Dave Rice thread embarrassment was the final straw.

I was just hanging with Junkie last Saturday. He seemed extremely distraught over the entire Dave Rice saga.

I like the Pac12 I hope that they can get back to where they should be in terms of conference performance.

I think the Pac-12 will be back. Arizona and UCLA have the 2nd and 3rd ranked recruiting classes according to ESPN.

Another thing with the signings is that UCLA fans have blamed early departures (transfers to a lesser extent) for their struggles and now have two kids that are pretty much one and done.

In 2008, fucla had the top rated class in the country. They didn't win the PAC and they won one tournament game before getting bounced. The following year the team didnt even make the tournament. I share your optimism that they will be able to return to similar levels of success with this recruiting class.

Last year, the Zoo had a top 5 class, iirc.

                              The problem isn't the recruits.
