Carlino is good. I keep forgetting he is a freshman.

One thing I'm digging about byutv is the unbiased game calls. I have a co-worker who is a Baylor grad and he is still talking about how well he thought the game was called by a university owned network.

I honestly think Dave McCann's role as the voice of UNLV has something to do with that. He's a huge BYU fan who refused to be a UNLV homer when he worked for them. He obviously couldn't be anti UNLV, so he perfected the art of objectivity. Of course it didn't stop UNLV fans from continually calling for his head because he wasn't enough of a homer.

Someone had a sign at the game that read, "I Love BYUtv"

Carlino is great. He has to work on some things...namely, ball control and, by extension, some of his passing (some passes are threaded needles, others are Jiggly-esque). This has been about as strong of a 3-game debut from a freshman PG (or ANY PG) that we could have hoped for. Again, he isn't afraid to attack but doesn't have to dominate the ball if someone else is open.

Don Flamenco continues to quietly amass points, rebounds, blocked shots, whatever. During the post-game show, the UCSB coach indicated that Noah was their primary concern matching up going into the game (meaning not Davies) and I think we saw why tonight.

I was impressed with UCSB. 33 and 21 (and little Earl, too) are great players. This was a quality team BYU played tonight, I thought.

Attendance was a really pleasant surprise. Once again, student section showed up pretty well and the entire MC filled to around 12-14K. Not bad for a late December game. Speaking of the MC, did anyone else receive that email today from BYU Athletics, calling the MC the "Big MAC?"

High Heel girl was gone again. I wonder why she didn't drive down from SLC

Does Demarcus Harrison have more made shots this year or more air balls? It's not just that he misses all his shots, but they're never even close. I don't get the hype.

And will someone please teach Abouo how to pull up in the lane. He's good for at least 5 charging calls a game. And why does Davies keep taking those 15 footers? That's not his game. His game is taking it strong against Lurch and getting rejected. It's frustrating because Davies has fantastic skills, but he has no clue how to use them.

Other than that, it was a great game.

Who would've thought at the start of the year that Davies would be our 3rd best player? Pretty soon here he will be/already is, behind Hartsock and Carlino.

Harrison will settle down and take better shots. He is just rushing his game as he wants to contribute instead of letting the game come to him. This will come with playing time and experience. Relax.

As for Chuck, he isn't the only that does this but I like that he is aggressive versus just settling for threes.

Zylstra still sucks and is terrible at leading the break.

I love that he rebounds, but he needs to give the ball up. Half the time he rebounds he pushes the ball up himself. And probably 90% of those plays result in a turnover.

Which makes him on par with Abouo in that regard.

He only rebounds when the ball comes right to him, he never rebounds out of his own area. When you are asked to crash the glass on every possession you are bound to grab a few each game.

he does give the ball up on fast breaks....unfortunately, it is usually about 6 feet PAST the free throw line and he is too deep to make a good pass.

I thought you were going to say he usually does give the ball up on fast breaks....unfortunately, to the other team.

I should have said such, but really it is the logical extension of giving the ball up when you are too deep into the paint to make a clean pass.

To his credit, he has been trying to finish more at the rim in these past several games, and having a decent amount of success. I tossed up a Z here and there last night, although it may have bothered the people around me :rockon1:
