I understand the sentiment, yet if Gonzaga somehow manages to escape with victory in their Crackerbox(they admittedly crank up thermostat 85 degrees, turn down lighting, & students breathing down the neck), its a cause for concern for BYU. It would subsequently put the pressure on BYU and/or SMC for a "must-win" AT Spokane, this even if BYU wins at MC vs Zags. While I fully expect GU to drop this game on the road, it would be interesting if GU won for Top-half of Conference. Pretty big game. You should feel fortunate you guys played them sans student section, b/c the "Gael Force" students all wear "Beat the Zags" t-shirts and go crazy all 40 mins. Tough for our true frosh backcourt to perform in this atmosphere...fwiw, we're practicing in a gym with a wall behind the backcourt this week to prepare for the odd shooting set-up as well.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

The best part about year 1 in the WCC is learning that certain schools have basketball programs you didn't even know about. Seriously, University of San Francisco plays basketball? I had no idea until the other day.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostTIA. I dont know anything about the league. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

wow, if you're a college bball fan at all, you'll quickly discover USF has one of the most storied programs on the West Coast & one of the Top-100 basketball programs of All-time.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostThe best part about year 1 in the WCC is learning that certain schools have basketball programs you didn't even know about. USF Dons have won 3 NCAA D1 National Championships, including 1 NIT Championship. They won back-to-back National Championships in 1955 & 1956.
They've had 3 undefeated seasons, the latest in 1977 at 29-0. It wasn't until heavy NCAA Sanctions & Suspensions in the late 70's the program began to crumble.
Bill Russell & Bill Cartwright both played there, Pete Newell was Head Coach there as well...they were Ranked in the Top-25 nearly every season until the late 70's. They've also won 21 games in the NCAA Tournament.
To this day, the USF Dons remain the only program in the West Coast Conference to have earned a #1 national ranking, having done so on multiple occasions. (Gonzaga has been ranked as high as #3 for several weeks, yet never #1).
The San Francisco Dons men's basketball program has been rated the 29th "Greatest College Basketball Program of All-Time" by Street & Smith's magazine, 49th by NBC Sports "Greatest Programs of All-Time", and 75th by the ESPN/Sagarin All-Time College Basketball Rankings.
This is starting to get ridiculous, guys. Making fun of USF? Respect the sport and take a history lesson -- makes you appear ignorant & uninformed.Last edited by higherroad; 01-10-2012, 12:59 PM.

So they've had a bball program for a while? Interesting. I'll probably learn some other neat stuff, as right now I can probably name 5 schools in the WCC and I'm sure there are more.Originally posted by higherroad View Postwow, if you're a college bball fan at all, you'll quickly discover USF has one of the most storied programs on the West Coast & one of the Top-100 basketball programs of All-time.

My apologies for the last sentence of my 'USF history' post. I have since rescinded the comment, it was unnecessary. I just got going, on a roll, and was fired up since I thought we were poking fun...unfortunately, my comment was quoted in subsequent posts. I'm sorry. I equally admire/respect what BYU has done in Sports history.
