Props to hr for coming around after a tough loss. Here's to a similar visit later this week.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I guess you missed last nights game if you think that the Zags have no bad losses. They lost lost to San Francisco.Originally posted by Maximus View PostI wouldn't be talking smack about either team as a Utah fan or even as a pac member. Zaga beat one of the best pac teams and has no bad losses. Only lost to msu by 7.
Also, the fact that you bring up the Zags losing to Michigan St by 7 points is a great example of the lack of quality wins by the Zags.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

They didn't just lose, they didn't even compete in the game. It was a blowout pretty much from start to finish. That makes St Mary's an impressive 1-2 in road non-conference games.Originally posted by Maximus View PostAnd how is losing to a good ranked team being exposed?
I'm not sure how a lower tier conference team can justify only playing 3 non-conference road games, especially when they have only 2 difficult road games in conference. They were 1-1 in the difficult conference road games. They have 1 quality road win all year.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

Besides beating one of the top teams in the PAC? I guess San Fran can qualify as a bad loss, even though they are 18-11 so not that bad. Gonzaga also has wins over ND (second in the Big east) and the decent Xavier.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostI guess you missed last nights game if you think that the Zags have no bad losses. Am I reading this right? The 1/2 seeds in the WCC tournament have byes all the way to the semifinals?

I guess the Gonzaga game is pretty important. I'm still thinking about doing a weekend in Vegas for the tourney. If not, this might be the first season in forever I don't attend one BYU basketball game.

All I hear from WCC fans is how the Pac-12 is terrible, how the WCC is so much better, and how it should be a one bid league, etc., except for when they want to talk up the Zags win over a 4th place Arizona.Originally posted by Maximus View PostBesides beating one of the top teams in the PAC? USF is 18-11 because they get to play a bunch of terrible WCC teams. They are 153 in Sagarin and 159 in RPI. That is a bad loss.
Xavier and Notre Dame are decent wins, but nothing that impressive. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

Pac still gets by on reputation alone. This year though? Good heavens that is an awful conference and I would say that THIS YEAR the WCC is better. That isn't saying much.

The Pac isn't that bad. Utah is dragging it down a bit but otherwise it is a solid conference.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostThe Pac 12 is terrible. How would anyone deny that? WCC is also terrible.

Looks like BYUTV is televising a lot of the games in the WCC Tourney.

Kind of funny how they put "Religious Services (Orleans Hotel, Times TBD)" on the schedule for Sunday. I don't remember ever seeing that on the MWC tournament schedule.

I received a text from a friend asking, "are you in Vegas?"
I responded, "what?? Why would I be in Vegas? I'm at home watching the news."
He responded, "I thought you would go the to tournament."
I completely forgot that the WCC tournament is this week. I checked online and apparently some of the games were today? Does anyone even care about this tournament?Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Your friend has the right idea.
The upcoming WCC Tournament features two ranked teams and most likely a 3-bid conference this season.
Every pundit, analyst, talking head has BYU, SMC, & GU in the NCAA's and that is more than exciting. If not, BYU still has a fighting chance to secure a bid and exact revenge on two teams that beat them this season.
This tourney is also a 5-team race as the 4th & 5th seeds both have 19+ wins under the belt and fighting for the Championship alongside the "Big 3". LMU & USF are both solid ball clubs with good players and more than capable of advancing.
Its going to be fun. You're missing out if you don't tune in.
Gonzaga expects several thousand in attendance and I'll be one of them -- win or lose.
The Orleans Arena is also a terrific venue, cozy, loud, raucous, and competing fans go back 'n forth trying to create a home atmosphere on a neutral floor.
fwiw, BYU plays USD tonight with a chance to advance and play Gonzaga on Saturday night on ESPN. Winner advances to Monday night's Championship game.
Besides, its not like your old conference is playing great bball lately and will most likely match the WCC in terms of auto bids. Most MWC teams have been struggling as of late, just look at the emergence of CSU & TCU, and above all else, New Mexico is set to win the MWC Championship(at least tie) this year with 4 Conference losses and they lost to Santa Clara this season, who went 0-16 in WCC play. Boom. The last time MWC had 3 bids was a few years ago and they went 1-3, last time WCC had 3 bids was in 2009 and went 3-3.
Anyway, Vegas is a fun city, Orleans is a fun arena, watching WCC teams go at for a chance to control their own destiny come Selection Sunday is a fun weekend, imo.
Enjoy the season while it lasts. This could be a HUGE weekend for Coach Rose & Co., also heard Hartsock is getting "better by the minute" and Abouo is amped as well, they're both Seniors -- why aren't you? I have a feeling I'm more excited for BYU than you are.
Heck, even the Gonzaga & BYU girls teams are #1 & #2 seeds of their Tourney and I fully plan to attend that Championship game as well. Both are a locks for NCAA Tourney.
ps. I recently voted for Dave Rose and his Children with Cancer Christmas foundation, and I've been encouraging my friends to do the same. He's currently in the lead with 32% for a chance to raise over $100,000 for his charity via Infiniti & ESPN promo.
If you haven't done so, vote here: [ame="http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/contests/infiniti/2012/"]Inspiration is Contagious[/ame] (you need ESPN log-in)Last edited by higherroad; 03-02-2012, 03:51 AM.
