Never said he would be a lousy head coach. I said he would be a terrible hire. Even hires that look terrible sometimes end up turning out well, see Gene Chizik at Auburn.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostBut somehow you weren't being premature about what a lousy head coach he will make?
There were far too many questions to risk such an important hire on Rice. Career assistant moving up to head coach, no head coaching experience at any level, no one knows about his recruiting ability, etc. Of course, Hill didn't realize how important this hire was and hiring a guy that was a slightly less terrible hire.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

Is the distinction of a lousy hire versus a lousy coach a meaningful distinction?Originally posted by mpfunk View PostNever said he would be a lousy head coach. I said he would be a terrible hire. Even hires that look terrible sometimes end up turning out well, see Gene Chizik at Auburn.

Carolina thinks he's a lousy hire too, just so you know."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

look, the bandwagon is big, so you're welcome to jump on, but don't presume to speak for all of Tarheel Nation, especially if you think you can split time with Dook. In fact, if that's the case you should just get off now.Originally posted by Topper View PostCarolinans do not like Rice and wish he had gone elsewhere.
I was plenty pissed at the Heels' performance and equally ticked that Roy didn't chew their asses out for taking so many stupid jump shots rather than attacking the basket and working the post game, as we had a clear advantage there, but I'm willing to take this loss in stride and say that we'll learn from it and that knowledge will help us in March and April.

Lectures, lectures and no patience. From South Carolina, one might not point out Topper is rooting for a Northerner, because Topper doesn't care much for sports. So Topper picks a relatively local team that is doing well. Clemson and South Carolina are stinking right now, so Dook and the Tar Heels are all that are available.Originally posted by pellegrino View Postlook, the bandwagon is big, so you're welcome to jump on, but don't presume to speak for all of Tarheel Nation, especially if you think you can split time with Dook. The truth is, Rice made a great career move; Utah would have been career suicide. I doubt he'd have taken Utah over UNLV.
UNLV is a perfect situation for him, as an alumnus fom the UNLV halcion days with a lot of sympathy from fans, taking over a team that was experienced, well stocked and well coached; the traditional UNLV run and gun style being what he did at BYU, local Bishop Gorman High perhaps with the most talented group of seniors in the nation, his brother the coach at Bishop Gorman, etc. The table was set for him there.
Had he gone to Utah, he'd have inherited the same four sub-DI level players from Boylen, the same overrated recruit in Matthews (Boylen seemed to have a talent for working the recruiting publications), the same Majerus shadow, and fans like mpfunk and TopUte and others with similar dispositoin and more clout would be eating him alive. A former BYU coach would receive a lot less patience than someon else. This is why so many Utefans were so against hiring him in the first place.
So, Rice is in the right place at the right time, and K is on the Bataan march. Junkie's post is like saying because in 1941 one guy was on the Bataan march, and another guy was in the U.S., going to college, thinking about calculus and Shakespeare, and living it up with beautiful coeds, the second guy must be a better person.
The fact is, Rose has less resources than K or Rice, he's never had as strong a recruiting year as K or Rice had this season, and odds are he'll be a lot less successful in the long run than either one of them.Last edited by SeattleUte; 11-27-2011, 08:14 PM.When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Yeah all Rose has done is win 78% of his games and go to the NCAA Tourney 5 years straight and counting. Odds are that Krystkowiak will be more successful? -- that's good stuff. I would love to see Rice succeed at UNLV but actually I'm pretty sure the odds are that neither K nor Rice will be as good as Rose.

No kidding. A prediction that Krystko will be not only better long-term than Rose, but much better, with odds to boot? I'm rearranging my portfolio tomorrow morning accordingly.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostLOL!
